Consequences of getting caught doing something illegal in a foreign country?

My school is taking a trip to spain and I signed up. I'm not sure if I want to smoke or drink over there because I don't know what would happen if we got caught. I haven't looked up the drinking age in spain but I doubt it's low. So anyways what would happen not only over there but when I got back home if I got caught either smoking weed or drinking??

P.s. I decided to post this in NSG because I didn't think it fit either 420 or ladies men so I am praying that I still get some good answers instead of a troll fest.

i think the drinking age is pretty low.. maybe around 12 or 13. but if your going with your school i can guarantee you won't be allowed to drink.

but all things considering, i know that at least in japan they hold you in lockup for like a night.  im not sure about spain though.  you could go to the spain tourism website and start looking up stuff like this.

First of all, how old are you? I know most countries in Europe have the drinking age at 16 or 18 and most places are pretty relaxed about it so even if you are 15 you prolly can get a drink at a bar. As for smoking, the laws are generally much more relaxed. For example in switzerland weed was almost legalized and their laws are super lax. Have fun in spain, but why are you not going to a place with kickass resorts. Glacier skiing in the summer is awesome.

Thing about Europe is that they like to laugh at our high drinking age and strict enforcement. They might fuck with you for being American, but its not like they would jail you for drinking or anything. Camp councilors might send you home and tell your parents though.

if you are 16 you should have no problem drinking, just walk into a bar, they prolly will serve you without even asking for ID.

you don't have diplomatic immunity unless you're a diplomat...
you're still governed by the rules of the country...

that said, spain is pretty chill about kids drinking, but your chaperones would probably flip.  our school just had a trip to spain where the kids spent about 500 euros on alcohol.  the chaperone, a teacher at our school, didn't really care, but a kid's mom found out, and now the teacher might get wrecked for it.
just watch yourself, be discreet about it...

The drinking age in Spain is 16 but you'll get away with it if your 14.  No one is going to arrest you for underage drinking in europe.

dude, dont worry about it. Spain is much more relaxed than the states. When you go out, scope the situation, my guess is there are gonna be 72364732 other kids your age drinking and smoking hash like crazy. Just dont do anything stupid to draw attention.
and yeah jail in a foreign country sucks. jail in the states when you are foreigner REALLY sucks, been there done that. but I dont think you'll end up in jail anyways. its europe.

Europe is not as strict about weed as America.  When I visit England me and my friends can easily walk around in a park smoking a spliff and no one really trips.  That said it is still illegal and you could be arrested for it.   However, as long as you aren't stupid about it you should be fine.  Just don't bring it across borders, because drug dogs will sometimes be brought on the trains.

Depending on where your going in Spain, the most abundant drug will be hash. It is hard to track down any decent weed but hash is good and cheap. If you are in Barcelona anywhere down by the harbour and la ramblas you will find skids selling hash. Barter for it. Check it first. I scored two large bricks for 20 euro. They guy started at 50 euro for one. Its also dependent on how good the stuff is that your getting. What yourself for pit pocketers and most of the guys who are selling you the hash are not the best to be associating with. Dont follow them anywhere to far from the main strip. Most of the guys we bought off of will do the transaction right there on the street or maybe just around a corner. Do not follow them into an isolated area, your gonna get jacked. The police are pretty mellow about any of that stuff there. Just dont be an idiot. I used to go to the harbour every night and smoke and drink wine on the beach. Its easiest to find any drugs in the bigger cities, you can find it in smaller towns it just takes a bit more searching. I think you biggest concern would be getting caught by a teacher or something. Dont worry about the police.

my school did a trip to spain two years ago, i didnt go, but everyone who went said they drank the entier time. Most of the time they were in bars and they could buy legally. Drink just dont get caught by your school.

as stated above 16 to drink 18 to purchase. Drinking in Europe is such a big part of life that people drink pretty much at every meal. Us Americans are really the best version of people who drink to get completely hammered. (Many people debate whether lower drinking age would lessen the appeal of illegal and irresponsible drinking, but, thats a different topic.) I went to Italy for 2 weeks with thirty other kids in my senior class in high school and on our free time we would go off to cafes and order a bottle of wine and stuff. The World Cup was going on then so we went to bars at night and order drinks and stuff. It was awesome. I do think you should get the aspect of drinking in the SPanish society. But don't get so sh*t faced you don't remember anything. Alot of kids did that on my trip and really regret not remembering watching Italy in the world cup IN ITALY. Also, our leader guy was my Latin teacher and he was pretty lenient about it. As long as you play smart you'll be fine. enjoy yourself Amigo

The official drinking age in Spain is 18 years old, but it does not matter.

Like other European countries, this law is not very well enforced. In addition, the region of Castile supposedly lowered its drinking age to 16.

i'm going to spain for a week this summer, mainly to party. Ten have cities run almost 100% bu tourists, and if you're going to one of these you can get away with pretty much anything, unless you kill someone or something. I wouldn't worry about spanish laws, they are pretty laid back with most stuff. Just don't get caught by your school, i bet you'd get in some big trouble.

I have an idea.  Just dont smoke weed. the drinking you can proly get away with no prob. just bring some mouthwash or something so ur school people dont find out and send you home.

i got away with drinking fine on my exchange as a freshman in high school.... that was in germany though, the host family didnt really care, they basically looked the other  way so long as we stayed out of too much trouble, which we all managed to

word of advice: check out parties befoe you go to them, i ended up at a fucking sketchy party in the city park at about 1am while i was there, not fun at all

When you're in a different country, you have to follow their laws. I learned this in HS political science. I'm pretty sure there are exceptions for countries with like military rule or wars going on, but Spain isn't one of those right now. And my little brother drank on a high school trip to Europe, if you get caught you will prob. get sent home though.

lesson: dont go on overseas trips with schools. Generally, it's like an extended day care, and you are always having conflicts with shit (I'm not saying it can't be fun, but things like drinking may get others paranoid, there are many conflicting preferences for doing things; usually seeing shit somebody else wants to do, you cant roam a ton, blah blah).

In the end, you'll probably be fine drinking some wine and shit. I had a good bit when I was 12. But dont smoke. You'll be in fucking spain, there is WAY more to do than waste your fucking time smoking.
