How well does regular carpet slide?

this has probably been asked before, but i couldn't find anything.

so my parents are putting in new carpet in our livingroom and they told me i could use the old carpet to make a summer setup with, my question is how well would this carpet slide? the dropin is going to be about 8 ft tall and the rail is not even a foot tall. does anyone know if this will work or do i need to go buy turf?

it would depend on what type of carpet it is. if it is long it probably wont be the best but if its almost flat then that would be better

in my summer setup we used in the landing area as padding it was pretty thick carpet, probably 3/4 inch thick, on flat ground when landing perfectly it pretty much would stop us where we landed.
i wouldn't recommend for a drop in, but for a landing its good and nice and soft

ya u shuld definatly get turf... the turf is basically plastic so it slides but carpet isnt like that. turf isnt very expensive either. i got like 50 square feet for like 30 bucks

It slides alright... It's not as good as turf, but that's because turf is plastic and very slippery when wet, where as carpet absorbs much of the moisture, and acts almost as a cloth. If the carpet in question is shag carpet, then no, it won't work nearly as well. However, if the carpet is industrial carpet (very tightly woven, not much cushion to it), then it will work alright. It can easily be said though that turf is better, and it'd be ideal to get your hands on some of that instead.

i know indoor/outdoor carpet is very similar to turf but marine carpet is also similar if that helps out at all
