Parents Getting Lamer As I get Older? Not really LM related

Basically....

all throughout middle school my parents were pretty restrictive and shit, then when i got into high school, they got pretty cool, letting me stay out late , go to some parties, hang out with friends when i wanted to and what not... still not cool with drinking and smoking (i did anyway) but whatever... They said when i got older, like 17ish, i could drink with them and so i was like "cool, whatever"

but now i'm a junior, and basically this summer they were hella cool, let me take their cars whenever, stay out all night, etc... but then school started and about around the start of the new year, they got all lame and restrictive again, they won't even think of letting me drink, even with them, and they bitch at me all the time about responsibilities and how i'm fucking up (i'm not)

anybody else had this happen to them? or advice on how to get over this hump?

btw i'm 17

take it you are a junior?  they probably want you to focus on school so you can go to college.  i know my parents got super pissy after the second half of my junior year into my senior year of high school because that year and a half can make a BIG difference in what your college admissions look like.  like seriously, those i think are probably the only years that a college actually looks at on your transcript cause i was an idiot in the beginning of my high school career and still got accepted into 4 year universities.

yeah i mean i've got a 3.8 cumulative and a 4.0 last semester, so i'm really not fucking up at all,

thanks though... nice to know someone elses parents are kinda weird like that too

...my mom is a psyco, but heres how i deal with it....
i smoke and drink all that shit but my mom bugges out every time i go out anywhere or anything.
basicaLly the only way to let them losen up or have any leverage in an argument with out giving them the i dont give a fuck response is to get good grades. with parents as long as you do good in school and shit they will care less about your problems and shit cause your doing good...
this is thoe only thing ive found that works....

They might know you smoke but dont have any proof to confront you. So they're being dicks and saying your not responsible and when they catch you they'll be like "is this why you threw everything away? over weed?" just saying its happened before

in my case, i am half japanese.  my mom is japanese...  good grades didnt cut it...  i basically had to get a 3.9 or 4.0 or else i was grounded from, well, everything...  skiing, hanging with friends, just chilling at home.

word, same thing happening to me sort of. Parents get crabbier and more emotional/nitpicky and shit as they age, but eventually they will probably just give up on parenting you. I wouldnt know, I'm only 17.

look, i'm good friends with the thread creator and he's really not fucking up at all, he's a good guy, and doesn't party too hard or anything.

you really need to step back and take a look at yourself before you start judging people.

it's a perfectly reasonable question, and he's looking to open some sort of dialogue with his parents, so instead of belittling him, you should just not post on this thread.

may parents really havent gotten cooler at all. but they have gotten much more lame. back in the good ol middle school days i could go ploaces with freinds and do lots of stuff. now im 17 have b's in school and they treat me like a 6 year old. its getting a bit rediculus, my mom always asks when she leaves if i think that she is not spending enough time with me. for some reason i can be out past 9:00 at night and no longer alowed to stay the night at riends houses. shits weak, glad i'll be 18 this summer then college after one more year... far, far away from them

your parents love you like crazy..... all though it doesnt make sense im sure they have their reasons..... maybe they watched 60 min or bill o'reilly and got freaked out about something.

or maybe you got in trouble with something and just arent tellin us.... but either way theres gotta be a reason for the change of heart.
