Switching to Twins...need help picking a pair

I've skiboarded for about 4 years...yes...dont flame me. But I have realized the major benefits i can get from skiing that you cant get from skiboards. I'm 6' 170 and mainly ride the cruisers while riding the occasional powder and park. I'm lookin for somethin that gives me ease on the groomers yet can tackle some powder and parks here and there. I'm pretty much lookin for an all-mountain pair of skiis. I'm new to the forums so dont be hating....yet.. ha

Im 18 years old 6'0 170lbs. I ride around Michigan and Pennsylvania but I go out west pretty often to Snowbird and Vail and what not. I would like to pick my skiis to fit better there than over here where snow is shit.

the ARVs might not be a bad choice.


i would take a look at the Moment reno Rockers, and the K2 Kung Fujas, if you plan on doing any serious park.
if not, the Line Blend would be perfect,

also take a look at the Armada AR6 and the Volkl Wall.

just google a few of those skis, and see if you can narrow it down to one or two.

problem with the rocker is that its pretty soft, so for a first ski that might be a little strange. issue with the wall is sense he goes out west alot, you have to factor in pow which the wall would fail at. ar6s are great all mountain/park, but they could be better in pow

check out prophet 90's. it sounds like you are skiing more out of the park, and the prophet 90 is perfect for that. Has the stiffness to cruise everywhere while still having the ability to take some runs through the park. if you want something that is more freestyle oriented, then the ARV or blend would be a good choice.

k2 extreme is stiff so it would be great for you on grromers but your not a light weight so you would definitely be able to handle it

Those are a lot of park specific skis up there, which is fine, and they can of course tackle all mountain fine. I have a pair of Rossignol Scratch BC's, which I really like, these are exactly the same as the S5's and Scratch Brigades. These ski's carve quite nicely when mounted a little back. They are fat and can handle powder too. I use them as a jump ski too and have hit rails with them. Love em and you can get them for cheap at Evo. http://www.evogear.com/outlet/skis/rossignol-scratch-brigade-bc-2008.aspx

Also you may want to look at Volkl Bridges. I have found that Volkl makes a good ski, though I have had durability problems in the past, this years are supposed to be sturdier. Volkl Ledges could be good for you too. Last years are not symmetrical, this years are.

Personally I'd grab the Brigades, they are a dope ski, and can really handle anything.

I have Armada AR6's and they are great for all mountain in my opinion. Great ski and the sheets hold up nicely in the park. Hope that help, and +k for realizing how much better skiing is.

no offence, but no. to the thread creator...do NOT get ar6s u will be kicking urself in the ass.

the ar6 is a park ski that CAN be skied out of the park.

this cat was an all mountain killer that CAN be skied in the park...dont get the 2 confused.

have u skied on fat skis before? line prophet 90 would be dope, Scratch BC, volkl gotamas..any of those 3 would be stellar choices.

or as a little treat...look into on3p...im sure they have a mold that would set u up just right for what u want...you can basically build the ski urself (a few different choices as far as shapes, rocker, etc.)

but if not, the 3 skis i mentioned would be gravy...

well, you must not have ever skied ar6s

ar6s would be a great choice. they perform OUTSTANDINGLY in the park and all over the mountain. don't think you're going to be stomping any 30 foot cliffs, but you can rip groomers, trees, and powder if you lean back. haha


but, they are a good choice, as well as some other skis here

i dont understand how an ar6 can be considered an all mountain ski(even though armada calls it that) ...give ur head a shake kid i know what im talking about (in this situation anyways)

The ar6 preforms the best in the park over all mountain. Now that that is settled,

MY suggestion is arv. You are a light dude, new to freeskiing, but have the concepts down. 175 arv is exactly what you should be on. /thread.

it's all mountain because it is stiff enough and has the sidecut to hold a good edge and rip the groomers and even float in a foot of pow.

Thats a whoolle lot of choices.. got to do some more research on my own time. Would the ar6's  blends or  the prophets be good through trees at all?

raising my thread back from the dead. Its been a while and I've pretty much come down to the Line Blends and Armada ARV's. What do you think? feel free if to recommend something else though, I'll primarily be cruising with the occasional park. Appreciate it.

I personally think that is a great choice. Certainly an underrated ski, at least on NS. You're not going to get too many recommendations for it, which is ironic. I'd say go for it.

the suspects would work for you, most people on here think they are bad, but then again most people on here are also retarded, durability may not be the best on rails but it doesn't sound like you hit rail alot. They are a stiffer park ski which means they will be good all over the mountain, but are also really good park skis. The king fujas is also a good ski to look into, great all mountain ski, in fact from what you said I would be more inclined to recommend the kung fujas, carves like a mother fucker, can slay pow, can hit the park.

what length would you all recommend? 6' 160 lbs.
I was thinking about 165 or 175 (179 if Prophets 90).

I'd get a pair around 180 if possible.  175 would be okay as well.  165 is to short if you ask me.
