Wow, pirates holding guy i know hostage...

so i just found out yesterday, there was a ship carrying food aid to africa off the coast of somalia, pirates took the ship and a guy from my town surrendered himself alone to let the rest of the 30 something crew go. i know his daughter fairly well and he used to let me rip around on his snowmobiles, super nice guy.

right now he is on a lifeboat with the pirates, and there is a navy destroyer withing eyesight of them trying to negotiate, they also have navy seals on board if things get crazy. i really hope he comes out of this ok.

wow and i was just going to find a link to an article, apparently they are asking 2 million for ransom, last night he tried to escape by swimming to the navy ship but they shot at him and he turned back.

You make a good point with not paying. Last year, 80 million was given to pirates in plea deals. Paying off only promotes continued piracy. I want to see Philips safe than those pirates get fucked up.

ya there are like 300 people currently being held hostage by pirates in somolia.  i will be a hard problem to fix now that we have showed the pirates that we are willing to pay for the safe return of hostages.

its been somany days... why dosent america get its shit togeather and save the man. he votes obays the law and pays taxes. we should do all we can to get our comrad back.my friends  went to drink with his son lastnight and he is trying hard to cope with the problem at hand. it is really hard to wake up every day and not know what will hapen to your father. hes a really good person and i really hope things will be resolved soon.

we should print off 2 mill us currency.. but not really back it up jsut pront it off to trick them... then give it to the pirates on there little shity boat for the return of our prisioner and then once said and done a team of american f16's should make a fly by and blow the shit out of the pirates and there crappy boats. that way the money will be destroyed. its pretty simple we jsut have to trick them.....

i think thats a pretty solid idea

Yeah dude, I got an e-mail from my mom telling me about this, and it blew my mind. It went something like "Pirates? Really? They still exist? Wait... I know that guy's daughter... Holy fuck". Crazy shit. Seems he's Ok now though.

Pirates vow revenge against America.

I am really happy your friend was saved, and how they sniped the captors is so bad ass and at this point I agree that it was probably the only thing to do...but Somalian pirates are extremely pissed that the US killed their comrades, because somalian pirates are known for freeing hostages and never using violence. Shit is going to likely take a turn for the worse in the coming weeks, and I wouldn't be suprised if Somalian Pirates started killing crews of ships

honestly, the us was humiliated enough by this one event, if they try to retaliate in any way i am fairly sure we would go and just destroy them. somalia is such a piece of shit country, there are 3 city blocks in that country that have any kind of law...other than that its a free for all.

word, i just feel like arming the ships would cause a lot of mayhem out there as well. and a lot of the ships dont carry weapons because of cargo sensitivity(gas, oil and whatnot)

but its kind of just a bad spot, kind of lose lose for the ships crews, we should just be more active in taking care of the pirate situation...if you know what i mean.

im glad we took them out. There are some things you just don't do.

Our Administration has way to much on its plate to have to worry about Somalian pirates. seriously.

you guys are fuckin stupid and speak about stuff that you don't know. I don't know much about the somalians pirates but I DO know that:
1) They are not the somalian army or whatever so there would be no reasons to "blow up" Somalia
2) You guys think that USA can fuck up anyone in the world? If they could then there wouldn't be any more terrorist and the somalian pirates would be gone.
3) The somalian pirates are way rich and they own huge boats with alotta weapons it's not just a lil kayak with 2-3 guys with ak47...

So yeah you guys should get ur fact strait before saying bullshit and making americans look like dumb asses, still stoked to see that everything went good for the guy!

1) there hasn't been a real government in somalia since 1991. power lies with the different war lords.
2) yes. if we REALLY wanted to we could. nuclear weapons are awesome like that.
3) no. somalian ships are not more powerful than a single us destroyer. and the few million bucks that the pirates may have pales in comparison to the multi billion dollar defense budget so they really aren't 'way rich'.
4)i like making lists to respond to other people's lists.
