Ben is a muslim. He enjoys speaking out against Christianity while simultaneously ignoring the outstanding record muslims have in the past couple decades and also apologizing for the acts of an incredibly violent and ignorant extremist sect. He also jerks muslims off while doing all of this.

That isn't very nice. I am pretty sure he is an atheist(or freethinker whatever) and he is just pointing out that not all muslims are fucking nuts.

Most muslims here are nice people and don't appreciate the crazy ones giving them a bad reputation. The ones over there are nuts though, and some of them are in positions of power just like we have had nutty christians in positions of power.

i believe (!) that religion in general is made up to give people something to believe in, to give them a reason to live. I am personally from a non religious family, but i am living with another family for a year. And they are really into the whole christianity thing. They pray before every meal, church for like 4 hours every sunday and every other "holy" day of the year.

A week ago we had a conversation about religion during lunch, because i told them i wasn't into getting up early every sunday just to go sit in church and listen to something i don't agree with/believe in. I was asked if people where i'm from are religious, and i sad no, not at all. The response i got was "that's sad".

I don't know why, but that insulted me. I love the way i live my life, and i know i wouldn't be able to live the way i live if i was religious. I think religions are made up to give people support in life. And yes, i also think non-religious people have stronger personalities than believers. I don't have to go "talk" to a god if i need help. I can take care of myself. Sorry if i offended anyone, just sharing my beliefs.

The title of your thread is correct, however Christians are just as bad if not worse, and this thread proves that.

Pretty much all religion except maybe Buddhism is totally fucked, but Christianity and Islam are definitely the worst.  Unless you consider Hinduism's creation of the caste system and therefore hierarchy, but that is a huge, entirely different subject.

I'd say there are fundamental differences that make your point rather invalid. Sure, there are people who claim any religion (or lack there of) that will be fucking nut jobs, but there are general societal and ideological differences within Islam that set it apart from say something as minor as the KKK and its derivation from Christianity. My main example would be to look at Islamic governments, and Islamic societies in general, where applicable, and unlike something as isolated as the KKK, ideologies and practices are more widespread, but by no means universal. That does depend on a point of perspective, but from what I've seen personally, I'd say that there IS a difference between something like Christianity and Islam, negatively, at a broad level, rather than a minute level.

and the KKK used to be HUGE, its shrank down more recently, just like im sure radical islam will int he future. they also arent the only insane example, read that article posted on the first page.

this isnt about religion. its about the way moderate, not extreme, Muslims are demanding whole countries change policies to suit them. then they protest everything else the country wishes to do that is against their religious belief. atheists back me up! perfect chance to show how religion is fucking up the world.

And I realize that the KKK is not the only perverted group within Christianity (or any religion for that matter), but your heavy emphasis was a bit overblown, considering it had probably a max membership that was a small fraction of 1% of Christianity.

I'm talking pervasive, albeit not completely enveloping, practices that really exhibit the differences in religion. My point is: yes, there are nuances in religion that are... odd, and at times can be perpetrated to drastic and disgusting ends, regardless of faith. That being said, I would argue (but won't) that there are fundamental differences, in Islam, that make it not so benign like others, on a ideological and societal level. But I'm by no means saying it is evil, or all are bad, etc etc.

Islam is only backward in your mind thread creator. You grew up in a society with different values and beliefs than those in other societies. Don't worry, they think your beliefs and values are fucked up too. Go take an anthropology class, I think you'll find it informative.

To the religion haters... Religion exists because it explains what can otherwise not be explained. Do not hate people for believing in something because they crave an explanation for why people die, how the world came to be, etc. People on this site are a bunch of fucking hypocrites, everyone preaches open-mindedness but if religion is ever mentioned, everyone that believes in organized religion is retarded.

To the people that believe it does explain things though... Religion gives peace of mind to people in mass quantities that would otherwise freak out whenever something bad happens. However, because they hold some religious belief they can rationalize the event and move forward with their lives. It might be bullshit to you, but you just don't understand. And yes, it's perfectly fine for you not to understand. For what it's worth i'm a big fan of scientific explanations for things but i understand the need people have to have belief in the supernatural when they feel science cannot deliver a clear explanation.
