If you want to count atheism as a reilgion(which it's not, and is fucking retarded to turn into one)

The point of the resolution is to make it illegal to say "islam is stupid" or to commit some sort of blasphemy("god dammit" any caricatures of their prophets) of whatever they find sacrosanct. I assume that the UN would just umbrella it and say any religion but we know who it is to accommodate for.

I believe in my constitutional rights and I know the most important to be free speech. Hell I even believe religious nutcases who would want to limit my freedoms have the right to share their opinions.

They should just ban religion, that would solve a lot of problems in future. Religion is a tool for segregation, its always good until they say "love everybody!... except them." Banning defamation of religion is like saying people can have guns but not shoot them. Its not solving any problems in the long run.

That doesn't mean shit to this country. The UN does not have higher authoritative power over our own Constitution. Who is going to rain sanctions down upon us? No one.

Not to mention that this would never hold up in a US court. The first person to be charged with something will have a case that will rocket its way to the Supreme Court. You know how we Americans are when it comes to our freedom of speech rights...the entire population would be in an uproar. Considering that this country was founded on the rights of freedom of speech and religion, I can't see a judge on either side of the aisle ever finding this anything less than unconstitutional.

My point was not that atheism is a religion, but that the law should not discriminate between believers and non-believers. Lambasting of the Christian, Jewish, or Muslim faith is looked down upon in the media and society as a whole, but bashing those who do not believe in god is condoned. I understand that this occurs because we are heavily in the minority, but I just thought I'd point it out.

as a fellow atheist, i've always taken it upon myself not complain about the injustices against atheism. it's a choice, imo, to disregard anything to do with religion, and if people want to look down upon atheists for rejecting delusions, they can go ahead and be deluded. i have enough freedoms in life to deal with it.

I am sorry but your statement is just plain stupid. Banning religion would not only be just as bad, but would just cause further division and more hate. Imagine how pissed off 5/6(I would venture to say) of the world would be if you told them they couldn't peacefully practice their religion. Imagine how mad you would be if you were forced to adhere to a religion you didn't agree with?

exactly. many islamic people are not terrorists because we attribute them that way.
we attribute them that way because many of them are terrorists. islam is intolerant of other faiths, whom they refer to as infidels.

islamic people are not going to stop being terrorists if we stop calling them terrorists. we can stop calling them terrorists when they stop being terrorists. (please excuse the redundancy).

I don't care about pissing them off either. I will blaspheme their religion all day. But our conversation started when I addressed a post within this thread when someone said we should ban religion.

That goes against everything I believe in to ban a religion. That limits 1st amendment rights just as badly as laws against blasphemy.

I agree though that many religions have common sense lessons that are beneficial to those who adhere to them. You just need to ignore the wacky shit within the holy books I guess.(LOLviticus)
