College Help!!

Alright so im a junior and im looking at colleges for next year and i wanna major in engineering. I have good grades and sat scores and im looking at these colleges..

Brown
*Bucknell
Columbia
*Cornell
Dartmouth
*Lehigh
*Penn State
Swarthmore
U Penn
*Villanova

The schools with the asterisks are schools i can get into right now and the rest are reach schools. I already live in CT so im used to a 2-7 hour drive for east coast skiing and i was wondering what schools had the best (I know its east coast) and fairly closest skiing. I was also wondering what schools had a good party scene and other shit to do. Any of you who go to these schools please try and pm me if you have the time and let me know how you like the school and what you dont like.

Umaine has one of the best engineering programs in the country... sugarloaf and sunday river are both under 2 hrs away i believe

out of those, darmouth... but its hard as fuck to get in. right near great skiing though

if you are cool with going to a school a little under you, UC Boulder has a great engineering school.

yea i highly recommend the umaine engineering. it packs 5 years of content into 4 years.

you wont have any time to ski though.

Cal Poly San Louis Opisbo and Cal Poly Pomona are really high ranked for engineering and you get to hang out in Mammoth on the weekends. It is an entire $3000 a year for tuition. Out of state is more but its still under $14,000 for the first year, usually the second year you can get in state.

Not really near skiing, but University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.

They have a ridiculously good engineering school (better than the ivy's you have listed, they're top 3 with a few number one programs (like civil engineering)) and crazy parties every weekend.  I went there for a year, but when I switched my major I transferred.

The tuition is definitely cheaper than a lot of schools you just listed, and the drive isn't too horrible either.

You might not be near skiing, but as an engineer you'll have so much work you won't want to be (or your GPA will suck).  Just remember-- you can ski all winter break and spring break and get really good deals midweek as a college student.  Please, don't pick your school based on skiing.

cornell is the easiest of the ivy's to get into, hardest to stay in though. thats how the saying goes

You realize most of the schools you listed have yearly tuitions of around $40,000, plus $10,000+ for room/board, right?

You do realize that if this kid is as poor as he says he is he will get a lot of money from any of these schools, especially the ivy league ones.

What's your point? He was saying that he couldn't go out west because the schools were too expensive, when he's already listed some of the most expensive schools in the country.

cornell skiing isnt really good at all. there is greek peak but its park has deteriated the past few years. but toggenbug and labrador while both are super small have good parks.

ill clear a few things up

first of all im not poor im just average
Cornell is the easiest ivy league scool to get into
most of the colleges are between 30-35,000 a year not 40,000
and if i would go to college out west it would be just as expensive as good colleges over here cuz i would look at like stanford, usc, and ucal berkely

Lehigh has a great engineering program, and is 20 or 30 minutes from Big Boulder which has one of the best parks on the EC.

Just to tell you, havign a really good school overall does nto translate into a really good engineering program, and vice versa.

As in The already mentioned Illinois and its insane engineering program

what about RPI, that is in NY and it is reeeally good at engineering, it just may be a bit of a sausage fest.  But what Technology school isn't?

And yes, I have friends at RPI and I can assure you it's a nerd and sausage fest.  Not to mention Troy SUCKS.

I'm currently a junior at lehigh. The only worthwhile skiing nearby is Big Boulder (45-50 min drive). Blue is closer but super shitty. Lehigh is alright. The engineering program is really good but the workload is rediculous. I'm a mechanical engineer and it's difficult to find time for skiing. The party scene is decent. There's a bunch of frats and some off campus stuff all the time. But being an engineer it is really only possible to go out on the weekend. After being here i realized that I would have rather gone to a bigger school closer to better skiing. Plus Bethlehm is a janky place.

Well if you wanna do that, Purdue has a amazing engineering program.
or if you really wanna commit you could try Rose-Hulman. Both great programs
