Sierras in April?

I'm driving to Cali in April to hang on the beach for a week or so after the season is over here. I'm gonna stop and ski in Utah on the way and probably ski somewhere in the Sierras a couple days while I'm there. What is the best place to find good snow around

....this area in mid to late April. I was thinking maybe Mammoth but I don't know. I've never been to Cali in the winter. I would be up for backcountry as opposed to inbounds terrain. I'm not too interested in park skiing so the place need not have a nice park. I just want to ski decent spring snow on fairly steep terrain. Any suggestions?

By the way....the closer to LA the better. That's my final destination. I know Mammoth is like 5 hours, but I'm willing to go somewhere 6-8 hours from LA.

mammoth and mammoth.. tee shirts and dope huge park. but then again... the best powder day I had there in two years was on may first. so yeah.

I was there memorial day last year and skied at squaw one day and mammoth the next and mammoth's snow was way better and it was warmer and more terrain open. Much better for smashin
