Maybe for park but not big mountian. Mammoth does have the best parks in North America but not the best back country. Whistlers park is good from what I hear.

Mammoth Backcountry is just as good as whistler, multiple 7000 vertical foot decents in the surrounding area, not to mention everything else. Oh yeah, its not cloudy and raining all the time too.

Squallywood isnt that amazing....go down the road a mile to Alpine Meadows and get some sick BC...actually dont, I want fresh tracks.
P.S - You are missing out if you have not been to Mammoth.

you can't go bc at squaw, I got my ticket clipped skiing sun bowl 5 feet out of the ropes. You can hike for turns at Alpine though, but inbounds at Alpine does not compare at all to Squaw. Mammoth is a good mountain, huge area to explore. Their backcountry is supposed to be ill. I havn't explored Whistler's backcountry yet, can anyone give me good discriptions of places to go?
