Dislocation: Anybody worn a 2 shoulder brace?

So I've had a bum right shoulder for years, had surgery, dislocated it some more falling on rails. Then I got a good brace for it and my confidence and skills progressed. Well long story short I just dislocated my other arm. So I'm wondering if any of my injured brethren have worn a 2 shoulder brace with any luck. I know I can pretty much kiss grabs, hand plants/drags goodbye, but I'm just hoping to salvage whatever part of my hobby I can.

Also if anyone has tried a compression brace vs. an immobilizer brace (what I've used) let me know if you've had any success.

Let me know dudes, I really appreciate any input.

Anybody? Has anyone ever had surgery and been able to go back to skiing at the same level with no dislocations?

i dislocated my left shoulder playing tennis 2.5 weeks ago. I spent the first week doing nothing, no physical activity at all. Then i started doing some excersises, and i was back skiing this last weekend. Did you tear anything in your shoulders? I streched some legaments pretty bad, but they're getting a lot better after i started those excersises.

well i had surgery 2 or three years ago and my shoulder has cdislocated numerous times since then so my shoulder is effed basically. i just went to visit my orthopedist and we did some scans and such. well i have more damage to the lebrom  so he said i can either do surgery again or start pt or do nothing. my mom and i decided that if im going to continue to ski i'm just going to start pt so im going to start that soon. but the only braces i have ever worn were the immobilizers. i've had two. one given to me after surgery and one given to me by the er. same basic thing just a band around your waist that holds your elbow and wrist. i hate these things.

^^^Yeah I'm more or less in the same boat as you Tingas. The immobilizer worked for me, it took a full season to get used to. But now I'm lookin at both shoulders slipping out, and i have no faith in surgery bc of exactly what u mentioned. sucks.

bump. now i'm really thinkin about a compression brace. so if anyone has any experience with those, your input would be appreciated.

Shoulders suck. I had surgery 3 seasons ago, all was awesome until earlier this year. I have popped my left shoulder out about 5 times this year. I have a tight compression brace, it feels like it helps but does not prevent my shoulder from dislocating. Every doctor I have talked to says there is no brace that will totally prevent dislocations, and if you ever really want to ski hard again you must get surgery and rehab the piss out of your shoulder. I hate injuries.

i dislocated my shoulder beginning of march and was back on ski's feeling fine after 2.5 weeks, i have heard of people needing surgry but i doubt i'll need, but i've never heard of being wearing a brace, unless you mean the sling you wear for the first week or so after they pop it back in.

I wear this brace. It helps in iffy situations, but I did dislocate while wearing the brace as well. It will not help on a fall where your arm is outstretched.

Can anyone pm I and him with any links to obtaining these braces other than a dotctor? I have subluxations in both shoulders (they both dislocate or slip out when my arms flail or stretch at certian angles) and I really stops me from progressing, Im to scared to throw rotations of jumps because I dont want to think about my arm coming out mid-air.

hahha oh those shoulders.

My left shoulder doesn't have ligaments pretty much. If I pick up a book or really anything more than a pound it comes out. I have multi directional dislocation (my shoulder goes out down, back, left, right and forward haha.) So the only option for me was soldering my shoulder joint and not being able to move my shoulder again. Not an option I deal with it. Thankfully my other shoulder only goes out down. Every time I lift my left arm as well, my collar bone dislocates from my sternum.

I've tried braces they don't do a thing for me, but I am not sure for everyone.

That one will do an okay job of keeping it a little more stable during iffy situations.

Like I said though, if you go down on it hard, it will still dislocate so don't expect miracles.

How are the straps held in place on the EVS brace? Just velcro? Do you wear that thing on ur skin or over a t-shirt?

I do not use the straps. I just use the compression portion. I wear it on my skin. It can become uncomfortable after a full day skiing, but the discomfort is worth it to me.

The straps are just velcro though.

Oh, and it also smells quite rank after a day of ripping too.

shoulder surgery, especially labrum surgery is one of the most painful surgeries you can have.  However, if u don't have sloppy shoulder joints and rehab HARD and Completeley, your shoulder will be fixed.  don't fuck around after surgery, i slipped a little in the bathroom 1 week after surgery and moved my arm to catch my balance and tore the stiching.  that sucked.    


Moral of the story:  unless your genetically screwed (ie  naturally loose joints), surgery will fix you if you rehab like a pro football player would.

It hurt for a few days, then it just becomes a real dull soreness.

I didn't have much success w. it, but I also went right back to skiing with no brace at all like an idiot. I'd say wear a solid brace the season after your surgery, it takes longer to heal than u think.

well when i woke up from it i was shaking... but that was just because my body was too cold it was weird. i had a local block (which i guess are common) so i couldnt feel a single thing in my arm for like the next two days. it was really weird. it was like when you fall asleep on your arm and can't feel it or move it.

I dislocated my arm from the shoulder socket this January and rehab is the slowest thing ever. I did however, tear my rotator cuff and I have nerve damage preventing the use of a couple muscles. The rotator cuff is still attached by threads and they hope it will regenerate on their own and the nerves will heal but only at a rate of a 7mm a month. Depending how much is hurt is how long that healing process will be. I am in the waiting process now but will find out what the next step is on the 14th.

Have any of you dislocated like this? I have seen 5 doctors and they all say this is rare. They say I don't need a brace and just need to rehab but it is so sloppy right now and I pop it out making the slightest movements. I think a compression brace ight help me out a bit but how much? It is my right arm (strong arm) and I am nervous that some skiing and summer softball and football may be a thing of the past. This stuff sucks.

seems to me like shoulder braces need some improvement. i'm probably gonna be rockin an immobilizer on my right arm (it's looser) and a compression on the left. if i lived in canada i'd probly ask a doctor for an opinion, but here in america we don't all have health insurance. that'd be communist.
