Looking to upgrade my camera this summer

hey im looking to upgrade from my plain sony handycam this summer. any suggestions, i want something with some more manual controls but, im not made of money so the best budget one you could think of i guess.  thanks for your time

What's your skill?  Whats your price range?  How serious are you with video?

In order to recommend you a camera, one needs to know these things.  Do your research too, because there are a ton of threads on subjects like this.
