i'm going on april 19th
you are going to go up from pinkham notch and make sure you go above the headwall a ways so you can get some turns in before the steep part. and like people have said bring a pack with food and leave early
Just watch the weather. You need there to be relatively low winds, and warm temps. The weekend of the inferno is a good weekend because there are alot of people there and emergency personel so if something were to happen there is help alot closer. I went the inferno weekend last year, perfect weather (warm in the 60's, blue skies, very little wind) and my only regret was not bringing more water. Bring a ton of water and make sure to top off your water supply at hojos. The sooner you go the more likely you can ski down the sherborn trail all the way to the cars. Also get an early start because the parking lot at pinkham fills up fast and the extra half mile walk from wildcat's lot sucks at the end of the day. Also hit up the upper snow fields for some good turns, decent consistent pitch up in the snow fields.
You chronics should be fine, may want to make sure you have a decent tune so your edges will have some grip if the snow isnt really soft.
Oh and also if it is a warm day watch out for falling ice from up on the headwall, it can be moving at a pretty good clip by the time it reaches the bottom of the ravine....
basically any nice day from late march - june or whenever the snow melts. the earlier you go the more concerned you need to be with avalanches but a better chance that the shurburn trail will be open all the way down (so you can ski all the way to the bottom). expect to meet a bunch of awesome people, and have a great time. i've met some really just straight chill people at tucks on a nice spring skiing day. all i can say for clothing is layers. there is a crazy difference between the temp at pinkham notch (the bottom) and the headwall. Bring a light pair of skiis so you're not fucked weight wise on the hike up, but heavy enough so you're not getting thrown around coming down.
hope that helps you out man
try to head up mid week. that might get a slightly smaller crowd
if you live far away spend the night near the trail head somewhere the night before so you can get an early start
maybe ill see ya there
