Making a website

hey y'all
i wanted to know any/every opinion/idea for making a website, im wanting to make one and itd be great to know the best/preferred  methods from people
for me i could easily make one using a shitty program, anyone could though and itll suck, but id prefer to make it using dreamweaver or similar program, im just wondering if its worth it to spend all the time figuring out how to use the programming or if there's a different, easier way
its taht or i pay my friend who's a web designer, but id really like to make this myself

First things first, web designers/developers cost a shit ton, so if you decide to go that route be ready to pay up.

It might be a good idea to tell us what the intended purpose of the website as they are pre-made free things that you can get fairly cheap that look fairly professionally.

Also in terms of hosting and domain expect to pay about $100 a year, but depends what type website you want.

As he said... it depends on your site really. If it's a basic blog type thing, wordpress will be the route for you. If you want something a little more complex and more professional looking then look into other cms's like mamba etc.

It won't be easy doing it and you will need to go on their forums and ask for shit loads of help etc. and stuff.

Maybe try to work a deal out with your friend and let him show you the ropes?

I got my friend to work with me on putting up a site but I would be interested in doing this myself. I'll check back on this.

it wouldnt hurt to pick up the quickstart book for dreamweaver and one for html/css. if you want flashy, youll need to know photoshop and illustrator (or any image manipulation program) (free = gimp.org).

as far as paying for a site. i do budget website (consisting of 5 stand along pages) for $1500-$2000.

$1500-2000 for 5 pages is taking the fucking piss. I feel sorry for the people who pay you that much for a very basic website.
