Carleton college....

close to welch village.

northfield is a cool little town, its close to the cities, its close to welch and their $100 student season pass. and they have three super awesome ultimate frisbee teams.

yeah their ultimate teams are amazing and if i go i would be so stoked to play with them.

I'm from AK though and all i ski is backcountry and pow and big mountain. i looked at welch's website and im pretty sure i would go insane having to ski there, or i would become a park rat which would be fun i guess...

Hello! my name is nate. i'm a sophemore at St. Olaf, across the street from Carleton. I ski Welch and Hyland during the season. Congrats on getting accepted to Carleton, really fucking good school.

All we have is park here, so expect to become a complete park rat. The $100 Welch season pass is a super good deal, and a pass to Hyland is smart if you're gonna want to ski a lot. I have only one friend from St. Olaf who freestyle skis and i doubt there are more at Carleton, but you'll find out the community here is really strong and you just meet people on the hill.

Northfield is a nice town, and Carleton is closer to the downtown area than St. Olaf which is nice, but it doesn't have too much to offer in terms of a nightlife, so take that into consideration. It's about 40 minutes from Minneapolis and the U of M which is nice on the weekends.

 Also, unless you're seriously one of the best players in the nation, don't expect making the A-squad CUT, but yea, ultimate frisbee is a huge deal in Northfield, glad ur interested.

Caleton is a really good school, that should stand on top, but your right you have to like the town so that it will be a good fit for "you". Skiing around the midwest is based on either park or racing.

There is no way could ever play on CUT haha but their girls team syzygy? and eclipse? look like a lot of fun.

I'm also seriously considering Reed in Portland. I got into whitman and williams too but for some other reasons im not really looking at those anymore. With Reed I would get to ski hood and its a good school, though not as good as carleton, and they dont beleive in sports. They have a small club ultiamte team and thats it. Athletics are important to me as a way of balancing my life and releiving stress so i donno about that. But I like Reed for a lot of other reasons.

I feel like the deciding factor is skiing and that I have to asses how important skiing is to me in way. If I went to Reed I could ski pacific north west places and could continue pushing my skiing in the big mountain direction, but I might not be as happy with the people around me and the academic environment. If I go to carleton I know i'll love the school and the academics but I definitely will miss the type of skiing that I do now...but who knows...i might transform into a park rat...

dude welchi is super legit and u will have fun there. the seyfers, nate, and pretty much everyone in the mediwest is one big happy family. Everyone here in minneosta nice and sick skiers as well.

now as for your BC experience...im sorry it wont help u here, though welch does have a back bowl. U will end up being a park rat, which isnt bad at all. But hey make some friends here and well help finance a way for u to take us to AK and go skiing.

haha sorry i didn't realize you were a girl, my bad. but yea sounds like you got all the right colleges on ur list. all the ones you listed are really comparable to carleton so i understand why the decision is hard. goodluck though and remember carelton is on trimesters so you'd have a huge ass break from thanksgiving until after newyears to ski in AK.

so im coming down to northfield for carletons accepted students day shingig to see what its all about and then on the way back im staying in portland and going to visit reed again to get a comparison.

id assume your not 21, so the bars are out. pick up with the frisbee teams. there are always crazy partys. pm me i can get you a contact number for either guys or girls teams.

go to hogan brother's for lunch or dinner. walk around the river get a feel for the town. if you stay over night just go party it up

so i am here in northfield and im pretty sure im in love with this place. I spent all day just walking around downtown and carleton campus and taking pictures. I ate at hogen brothers and it was delicious.

I convinced my mom to drive out to the rail jam at welch on saturday so i will be there to get some shots and take in the scene that you guys got going on.

hell yea that's great! the weather is so nice right now! glad ur having a kick ass visit.
