Vermont Skiing

So next year I'm goin out to Vermont for college and I'm from Boulder, CO and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on where to ski.  Out here I ski trees and backcountry with a little park and I know in VT it will be a little different but if anyone knows some sick places or recommendations it would be bomb.

if you like trees then go to jay peak but if u like park go to mt snow!

stowe or smuggs, stowe is farther away but stowe has more varied backcountry. cant go wrong with jay though its probably 1.5 hours from burlington. but being from boulder you are used to that. the drive is about 500 times better too in vermont.

stowe or jay. i've never been to smuggs, but both stowe and jay have awesome glades. and stowe probably has a better park, but i dunno

Mount Snow is pretty awesome. So are Stowe and Stratton. You also have Burke, Sunapee, Killington, Bromley, and Whaleback (which is tiny and is in NH). I am not really a fan of Bromley though (too small and overall not great for skiing). I think the best places to go and shred are Mount Snow, Stratton, Stowe, and (don’t get mad at me people) but Killington as well. Killington is close for me and I get a free pass through my school so I can’t complain. You get a wide variety of skiing at these mountains and they are all pretty big. Since you are from Boulder, I am sure you will have no problems with the size of these mountains. Stowe, Smuggs, and Jay Peak are all good for backcountry and Stowe also has an awesome park set up. Mount Snow’s parks are really nice as well but I am not sure how the backcountry is there. My best advice is to just check out these mountains online and you really won’t know if you like it or not until you get there and do some skiing. You will figure it out though and there are so many mountains around here. Loon in New Hampshire is also nice but that could be quite a ways depending on where you are. There's not much in the way of "backcountry" at Snow, but if you know where the stashes are at, there are a lot of really nice tree skiing spots that never get tapped.

If you are in Middlebury, probably Stowe. It is ridiculously expensive but it has everything, and I heard Smugg's park sucks this year.

Bolton Valley for Night Skiing
Sugarbush is a great mountain all over
Jay for powder, long drives and trees
Mt Snow for a great park and tons of New Yorkers 

Go to Sugarbbush or Stowe

depends on where you are gonna be in VT, if you're gonna be around burlington go to mad river or jay on powder days and smuggs for regular days

Do thos: Get a triple major pass (250 for Mad River, Jay, and Bolton). Ski Mad River whenever there is good snow, cause they have by far the best terrain. Ski Jay when they get the storms that other areas don't get. Ski bolton at night and for park.

Being there you are kinda far from Jay but Killington is pretty close despite it sucking, and there is always the Snow Bowl which is a pretty fun little place..Its where I learned to ski

Oh my, that just cracked me up.  Mt Snow backcountry?  WHAT? Maybe minimal sidecountry, but definateatly nothing worth coming for.  I can confidantly say that I know just about every drop there, and there aren't many.  If you want park and pipe, come to MS because you won't find any better.  But if powder is what you're after, northern Vt is the place to be.

Thanks for all the advice. Yeah im gonna have to get used to the different skiing being from CO. But that three pass deal sounds super sick so I'll check em out and hope I can enoy it.

Snow should be about the same, jay actually gets more on average than vail, its just the terrain is a lot less expansive and a bit more tame, however you will get some sick pow days so bring some pow skis.  I think it was last year jay got 420 inches average is 355, so you will definitely get big dumps and consistent little dumps.  Usually you can find stashes too.  There is some BC too if your into that.  If your a tree guy, Jay is your place, sooo many good tree lines.  Mad River Glen is nice too, a lot of it is left ungroomed and it can get pretty hairy, so you should be on your A game.  You could also head into NY and do whiteface or gore.  And there is also sugarbush, stowe, smugglers notch, killington, okemo, stratton, mount snow, pico, bromley, and magic mountain.

Sorry, but your sig just cracks me up.  Everytime I hear "powder snow skiing"  I think of Warren Miller narrating a classic.  powder snow is just such a wonderful old school expression.
