The day has finally come! You no longer need a beacon to head out into the BC thanks to a new Iphone App!

so sick but you need to have reception. how good is that under 4 ft of snow? i would get it just to have but i dont know if i would trust my life with it

how waterproof is an iphone? if this thing doesn't work as well in an emergency as a real beacon it shouldn't exist...

Thats an awesome idea! obviously half this site is on apples d#!% anyway so lots of people have an iPhone. it sounds like it has lots of good features too. I'd like to be able to select who I'm digging out first, because lets face it - some friends are just better than others, and obviously the more people that have iphones the better it'll work. it should also be good for inbounds skiing, cause occasionlly there are slides within the ski areas themselves

Cool concept, but there are so many things that could go wrong.

Battery life, loss of reception, being buried and not having your 457 khz adaptor plugged in and no one around you has an iphone. Getting calls or texts during a search, etc...

I wouldnt be surprised if we see a better version of this or something similar in the future though.

Why? The technology is all there. All Iphones DO have GPS which is what the system works off of. I don't know why it wouldnt be possible to plug in a 457 khz adaptor, most new beacons are digital anyways.

I don't trust it. Get a reliable beacon if you need one. $300 is worth your life in the one situation where you need to be found.

Besides, I don't think I or anyone else would trust someone using an iphone beacon to find me.

OK, Im an idiot. The first time I skimmed the article, now I actually read it. Its so blatantly obvious that its a joke I feel shamed. Anyway if anyone read this part without second guessing it, your an idiot.

When your buddy it buried under 4 feet of snow at the bottom of a slope, it would be nice to be able to communicate with them. Are you in pain? Do you have an air pocket? Conscious? Now you can get this information and more with ESP (Entrapment Snow Phone). You know that powder line just left of the slide still looks epic, and you’d hate to ski avy debris instead in a search only to realize they are at the bottom of the slope anyway. Why not ask your buddy if he’s comfortable, and has enough air for you to do a quick lap and hike back up to them. “Go for it, Bra!” is sure to be the answer they’ll give you.

I lol'd - technically a good idea though! esp as you can now combine equipment into the iphone!

Alright, it's out of the bag... too bad, fun while it lasted. April fools! I was wondering how many people here would actually think this was a good idea. Anyone who showed up to tour with an iphone would be beaten mercilessly with a shovel.
