End sexism in contests

I had a great idea just now. Girls and guys skiing has been seperated in terms of skill for a long time. Something needs to be done to get it on the right track! Soooooooooo, END THE SEXISM! Instead of X-games girls and guys events, lets combine em! That way, for like, superpipe, no more girls and guys events, just one big ski superpipe event.

Obviously, the girls arent goingto be going as high or doing as great tricks, so something like a handicap would be imposed on the guys so that the girls have a real chance against Tanner. But wouldnt that be cool?!?! A girl could beat out Dumont for the overall pipe contest and we could show the rest of the world that our sport is the lone one where gender doesnt make a difference!

Sorry, but this is the worst thing I've ever heard in my life.
It would be like robbing a deserving competitor (Dumont, Tanner, etc.) out of $20,000.

It's not Sexism at all.  There's a reason why their's the PGA, and LPGA.  NBA and WNBA, Tennis, and women's tennis. 

Skiing has one of the largest skill gaps that i've ever seen for men/women's.  I was astonished that women's X-games pipe got the same as mens this year....  Girls need to step it up.

Ha, the idea of this is bothering me actually.

It would also kill the progression of women's skiing.  With the whole handicap thing girls would realize "Oh wait... I can do a 540 and win.... so I don't ever need to spin above 5 again." 
i'm offended.

i understand what your saying. but including a handicap would just reinforce the stereotypes, and just anger people more. i don't think there is a problem with having separate events, because women don't have the tricks to compete in the mens catagories. it is the same reason comps have a pro and am division.

but that shit in the queen's cup article did nothing but hurt the idea of closing the gap between men and women. my super sweet park? fuck that. prefer sleeping in and manacure sesh? get up off your ass and ski like everyone else does.

as soon as a woman has the tricks and style to compete against the mens field, she will. and her name will most likely be kaya turski.

but until then, you should probably go make me a sandwich.

I really don't agree with this premise. Separating sports on the basis of gender isn't (in my opinion) sexist. Are you insinuating that ALL sports events should combine genders? Should the Olympics do the same? I certainly don't agree with the argument that men are better athletes than women, but I think separating on the basis of gender opens an equal playing field for both, different sexes.

Let's face it, and as you mentioned, girls "aren't going to be going as high or doing as great tricks." Why on earth should we handicap other male athletes so that women "have a chance" in competition? Should we handicap Colby West for throwing a switch misty truck 9, because there are women in the competition throwing 7's (albeit a sick 7) off the same jump? In making that suggestion you are inherently acknowledging that women are "less skillful" skiers than men. Does that not defeat the whole of purpose of your argument: Combining the sexes so that women aren't discriminated against?

I love to see girls shred, and I more than support the development of contests that allow girls to go out there and compete. If anything, for all the male competitions there should be concurrent female competitions so that EVERYONE has the same OPPORTUNITY to compete.

Just my two cents.

Its not sexist, its logical. The gap between men and womens skiing is huge, would you, as a girl, rather compete agaisnt people like PK Hunder who can throw huge dub cork 12s or someone who is at about the same skill level as you? And a handicap is just stupid, why should someone throwing a 5 stand an equal chance agaisnt someone who has spent the time to learn something like a double flip/cork etc. Like someone else mentioned, it would also pretty much halt all progression in womens skiing if girls are given a handicap, they would no longer have to try and close the gap between the two genders, it would be given to them.

Does anyone else wonder why issues like this come up, but noone cares if a ladies only gym is opened?

So you want to combine the men and women to eliminate the "sexism" that is caused by segregating them, but then you want to give the women a handicap?  Those two things directly contradict each other.

At least we arent a bunch of morons.  Girls competing against guys?  That is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard.  There are guys that are by far better than the BEST pro girls that are barely sponsored, not sponsored, and arent even considering sponsorship.  Why would THalls double flip in the pipe or a dumont 12 or a olenick whiskey flip be taken down by a no grab 9? THAT IS DOWN SYNDROME! THINK BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH! GO MAKE SOME COOKIES!

I would like to point out that I'm not agaisnt the idea of women competing with men, I'm agaisnt the idea of hadicapping them to do so. If a girl could compete at the level men can then power to her, I don't see why she wouldnt be allowed to compete. The idea of giving them a handicap, however is just stupid

they are separated becuasce of hte differences for the most parts atleast in the xgames most males are straonger and more fit than the females and cna throw down way harder. id like to see them combined when girls can throw 12's and double flips in the pipe and jumps.

I think its a really good idea. It's only ever going to be positive. Like the girls obviously need to progress more, so what better way to do it than to have them riding with the men. That way they'll pick up some hints and pointers along the way.

At the same time mens competition is getting stale. Same old things being done. By having a handicap they'll have to push themselves harder in order to win.

It makes perfect cents to me :) though I can see why some people don't like the idea. But that's just because their precious idols won't be winning anymore, so find something new to masturbate over!

rather than assuming we're assholes, make a constructive point that refutes one of our points. there have been a few well thought out responses to your initial idea... you should reciprocate and give us a real argument for your idea. Oh wait, you can't because it is a bad idea. I've spent a long time working on my style and skill, I don't want to be beaten by some chick in a comp who threw a 5 when I did a cork 7. It's not because we'll be lacking for something to jerk off about, it's because brilliant runs will be getting beat by inferior ones. I have yet to see a girl throw down a run that rivals anything from the last, what, like, five years of men's competition, in either pipe or slope.

that would be creating reverse sexism because then a man stomping literally the best halfpipe run of all time could be beaten by a woman doing a run that is not as good. so then men are being discriminated against.

so if there is no sex associated with this than who should win; the person stomping the best run of all time or the person doing a run that is not as good?

seems like the best run of all time should win.

I'm all for equal rights and stuff but this is plain stupid. I'm in college right now and if there's anything I've learned, at THIS point in my life, a woman is good for sexual favours and draining my cash flow. A woman who throws straight airs and ugly no-grab 7s is not good for taking away a gold medal from Tanner, Simon, Dorey, Xavier, etc. who are throwing dubs and sw12s.

the slopestyle at our mountain had a handicap and it was just dumb the girls were made because they didnt have their own division so if you want to compete with the men then you shouldnt get a handicap it is not the men in skiings fault they can do bigger tricks girls just havnt stepped it up enough i think there should be two divisons and should have the same cash prize for both
