That's so fucked up.. I've done a few strong crosswind landings in light aircraft, and its hard enough there.. Those planes are so unresponsive, it takes crazy skill to land them in conditions like that.

You will find all pilots are trained with crosswind landings, with many flights in the simulator with crosswins of up to 50 knots in place. about 3 of them were crosswind tests and afew were just on the maximum wind allowed for a landing at an airport, any more than that and they would be diverted.

that last one was ridiculous. Some of those though i know were from the Boeing 777 wind landing trials, when they specifically bring it out to windy areas and alter their landings etc to exaggerate the wind to make sure the plane can deal with it. And the 747 i'm pretty sure has landing gear that can pivot slightly, so the plane can actually land slightly off center. (they call it "crab-walking" i think)

crosswind landings are scary as shit. I was in a small private jet, no idea what kind, but it sat 9. we had some significant crosswinds coming into land and I honestly thought I was going to die. Its such a scary feeling to have the tail of the plane just slide out like that, especially as you are approaching the ground

it is weird at first when i learned how to land with crosswinds, but the pilots are meant to do that it is so they can keep lined up with the center of the runway and it can actually be quite fun, but in those extreme conditions it would of been pretty scary

at 1.41. holy shit.

it also just goes to show that if your flight get delayed or even canceled quite your bitching people.

over the winter my dad was flying to somewhere in PA and they got there, only to be put in a holding pattern, they ended up not being able to land and having to divert to Detroit.  most of the time accept that if the airport is not letting you land, then chances are you dont want to be landing.

agreed that it can be fun, but for these guys it's way different. i fly a 767 sim, granted i still suck at it, but its so different to flying the planes i'm used to.

oh yeah for sure i am still flying cesnas because it is the cheapest for training on and they are fun, but i can't even imagine how hard it would be on those planes, but then again they have like thousands of hours as well. Those situations are where experience really does kick in

are you planning on becoming a commercial pilot?

experience is so important but it's a double edged sword. for some, experience leads to overconfidence, which imo is worse than inexperience. "there are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots"

dam the pilots in that video have some mad skills.
i did something similar to that last plane in a c172 with a 20kts crosswind component  almost had to pay for some new plan parts.
what do you think those winds where at, 40kts?

just remember when in doubt full power.

my dad used to fly a cessna 120. we landed like that all the time since you dont have flaps you have to scrub speed by slipping it sideways. pretty fun actually

yeah i am planning on becoming a commercial pilot that is what i am going to university for right now it is pretty sick i love it and couldn't see myself doing any thing else. Also the statement you said is so true you experience is so important but over confident can screw you over so bad

definitely the best beach i've ever been to in my life. Warm water, big waves...and planes. The only downside is that every video of it only shows the really big stuff coming in, when really 3/4 of what comes in are small island-hoppers.

I stood on the beach behind an md-80 as it was throttling up to go, and the sand blast hurts so much that you can't even help but sprint full on into the water just to get away. Ha, and we saw some jackass park his car behind an american airlines 757 as it was taking off with his windows down. Nearly flipped the car, and actually blew out the rear windshield and launched it into the water.
