It really sucks that Stratton is getting such a bad rap with respect to not supporting parks. I know a bunch of employees and management there that totally feel the opposite. I'm pretty sure they'd be open to hearing your feedback or at least explaining where they're coming from.
I know for a fact that they don't feel good or really want to close the US Open site after they spent hundreds of thousand dollars building it, so there must be reasons that we don't know. The main reason they even host the Open in the first place is to support riding and the snowboard community.
Maybe you should reach out to them and let them know how you feel or ask them some questions to get the full story or reasons behind their decisions???
Yes, there are in fact Bear's and it does border Protected Bear Habitat; but...NO, that is NOT why the Sun Bowl Closed early.
Here's what I know.....
Very low business levels, volatile weather in late March (60 degree's, pouring rain, back to freezing every night) and the general safety & condition of the Sun Bowl is why the Sun Bowl closed early. Those jumps were made for the world’s top 5% pro-riders with forced air. They're not designed for the general public who "think" they're pros to go big and ride anything, not to mention mom, dad and little sis’ who find themselves in harms-way in a park they have no business being in. Aside from that, the removal of staging, scaffold, towers, generators and other machinery also added to its hazard level.
