Short Poles

are shorter poles easy to get used to? they are just below my waist in length and im going up to meadows tomorrow to try em out. any tips, hints, pointers?

Short poles are hard to adjust to for two runs then its much easier. My poles are monstrous right now and I hate it.

It feels kind of goofy at first but the only huge difference is when you need to skate. You'll wish they were longer then. But for jibbing its the only way to go. it feels like you don;t even have poles in your hands. You'll like it.

How short do you guys go on poles?

My normal poles for skiing are 125cm, and iv been using some 115 cm ones for jibbing and it feels alot better, they feel absoloutley tiny, ( im 6 ft) but i like them.

Dude i cut mine and i love it for jibin . i find u get to spin ezR on rail but thats just my opinion

idk i like shorter poles rather than longer poles even if im shreddin through the groomed. Its lighter and feels more control so its easy to flick your rist when you pole plant you dont have to lundge the heaviness of long poles when you turn

they just give me something to hold onto so my hands dont float around.  mini poles is for sure the way to go.  and get the kids poles theyre much lighter

Short poles are cool. I don't use those crazy short ones but I use mine just above my waist. It's harder to do pole plants (i.e bumps/moguls) with but they don't get in the way and I can't stand huge poles.

You can't use them to pole pant and initiate turns, the pushing function while skating is totally compromised, and if you are on a traverse or skinning they won't be helpful at all. I don't get this trend at all, but it clearly didn't develop from people who are skiing the backcountry.

Why not just go no poles? Or just grips?

I had 40" kids poles that broke this year after 2 years so my parents bought me 48" poles that I cut to 38" best decision of my life. Short poles ftw!

I think it looks worse than no poles. I mean why carry them at all. They look way too small and are obviously not doing you any good.

The hand piece should just pull off and then cut them off the top and put it back on.

I completely agree. I like poles up to my waste so I can actually use them. You will become a much better skier with longer properly sized poles

get short poles but not too short otherwise its useless and might as well go no poles stick with poles that start around your belt or a bit lower you could still use em for alot of the stuff normal length poles would do and they dont get in the way when your landing is shitty

I have had everyone from lifties to gapers to tele-skiers ask me why my poles are so short. I feel wierd just looking at my so called "properly" sized poles and thinking that I actually skied with those bohemoths

im 5'10" and i ski with 115s all the time... it is much better in the park but it gets really annoying and hurts my back when i have to skate/pole long distances, and if for whatever reason youre doing lots of short turns and need to pole plant its kinda weird... but you get used to it fast...

anything shorter than 115 is a bit pointless IMO. i have my poles so when i hold them without skis or boots on my forearm is just pointing downwards a bit.

i'm 5 9ish and have 34 inch poles. i personally love them. i'm not sure what 34 in translates to in cm though. they work fine in everything and are awesome in the park. they also work fine in pow

I don't care how long or how short your poles are, as long as you use them to pole plant when you turn.

If you're not pole planting then drop them.

fuck short poles...i just use tree branches. they're free and disposable anywhere on the hill. when you need them again, just approach the nearest pine tree and rip off a new pair for yourself. they are also flexible so they won't hurt when you land on them, and you can customize length and thickness for free. trust me..its the future.
