it should def be lowered to 18 in my opinion. i think that a lot of kids drink just because it is illegal. take italy for example. the kids out there start drinking when theyre like 14, and they, for the most part, drink responsibly. if kids learn how to drink responsibly before they go to college, it could save a lot of stupid shit from happening, such as drunk driving. so put me in the YES column please.

i say no becuase enough kids already get killed drinking, just imagine if they could go out and do it legally. but just for the record the US doesnt have one specific legal drinking age, each state has its own drinking age that just so happens to be 21 in order to recieve a fat check for highway maintnance. just throwing that out there

Yes it should be lowered. Keeping it at 21 causes kids to drink to excess more often because its "cool" and illegal.

thank you. my thoughts exactly its done cause its the cool thing to do. if we adopt a policy such as ireland has where kids drink from a very early age, then they are more responsible about it. thanks for the input everyone keep it coming.

i think that uderage drinkers are more about claiming it. ya know the kid you hear on monday" dude i took 3 shots of jager, then hugged 3 beers and played 7 games of beer pong! it was sick dude!" i am guilty of saying shit like that, but i tihnk kids kinda like to claim on teh shit instead of enjoying it like they should.

in high school there is definitely a bit of truth to that. but having years under your belt as a drinker helps a shitload. just me personally, i don't do nearly as many stupid things, I have a lot of control, never get sick, and I wake up the next day at 9 am fresh as a daisy.

basically what I'm trying to say is I have way more control over every aspect of drinking. I can always drink whatever is appropriate for the situation (one beer with dinner, or no more than 3 for the night if I'm DD, a shitload but not too much at a party, a few at a gathering with parents/parent's friends). some people can do that right off the bat, and some people never learn how to, but for me, years made the difference, and I think that should count for something in this debate.

absolutely agree. i feel if parents want to let kids start early, they should have every right.

a women two towns over from me got two years in prision for allowing her daughter to have a party of about 25 kids over. she supplied the drinks, but she took their keys and locked the doors and kept an eye on them to make sure it wasn't outta controll. police came, arrested her, and she is sitting in jail for 2 years for trying to let her daughter and her friends drink safely.

thats fucked in my mind

Yes it should be lowered. Less binge drinking would occur since kids want to act like bad ass since its illegal

I would say 19 if that's an option.  I think the main reason people are against 18 is that high schoolers are 18 and if they can get beer, so can the rest of the high school.  Changing it to 19 would keep it out of high schools (well as much as it does now) but it would allow most college students to drink.

YES. if people arent drinking already in high school, they definitely are between 18-21.

even my redic. strict dad always tells me that he thinks people should learn to drink younger, so they dont absolutely wreck themselves when they leave home, you know? i mean, honestly. 18 is the age for everything else in the US, (basically) and i dont see why you can Vote, smoke cigarettes and join the armed forces but NOT drink?

i think it should be outlawed completely.  but that's only because I'm hungover as fuck.  i feel like a midget is stomping on my brain stem.  In a few hours i'd be down for age 18 - whoever said they don't understand why you can die for your country, but you can't have a beer was pretty much spot on in my book.   this country is great at employing some fucked up logic at times.

It is 18 in the UK and we have a REALLY bad binge drink culture. Of course NS is going to have everyone saying lower it, but should it really be lowered? I don't think 18 year olds are old enough to be responsible about drinking. It's a seriously unhealthy habit when drunk too much. Everything in moderation.

Seriously? I think it should stay at 21

it should be lowerd to 19 because if it was lowered to 18 high school would pretty much turn into college. everyone that is in college already drinks even if they are underage so it wouldnt really matter if the drinking age was lowered to 19

I think it should be lowered to 19. If it was 18, then too many kids would be getting drunk during lunch at high school. It would also be easier for kids in hs to get their hands on beer if all the seniors could buy. At 19 most kids would be out of hs. I think this would be the most responsible way to lower it.
