Good colleges that have skiing.

Alright so I'm not going to brag..... I am really smart.  My parents would never let me go to a trashy college just for the skiing.  Anyone know of some really good schools that have skiing very close to them?

i have the same problem, i even got an $18 thousand a year scholarship to Denver and they wouldnt let me go, it sucks

The University of Utah has a good  business school and a great biology/medical program...that and it's only 30 min from Park City, and only about 45 to Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, and Brighton.  If you're interested in either of those majors, the U of U is definately a good choice, and the proximity to epic skiing can't be beat.

Amherst - kind of close
BC (anything in Mass is pretty close)
UVM - decent school

West Coast: not really sure

U of Washington
CU engineering?

wow, how can you even really say that skiing in college in the east is even the same sport for a college student. I had friends battle with this and it always made me want to cry for them. You can ski alot in college, but you have to play it right. U of U, CU, or MSU-Bozeman are like the sun compared to the earth against some of the listed school. I was a really smart  HS kid too, and I realized that being taken away from what makes me happy, is dumb.

how about this, make a list of places you want to live, then look at the colleges around there.

I would look in SLC, Tahoe, Denver, and near Mammoth. And that's it.

Thanks for all the replies guys.  Boston college sounds like a great option. Being from the midwest, I never ski powder anyways so I am just a park guy so I wouldnt need to go out west.

thats a stupid reason to not go out west... everyone wants to go out west. everyone wants to ski powder

with that being said. go to Colorado College. its surprisingly hard to get into, great skiing (breck), its on the smaller side, its on the block plan, and some other things that i can't remember.

if you really do want to stay on the east coast, go to Darmouth or Middlebury. they are the two best schools by far, but you gotta be a freaking genius to get in, so i hope your as smart as you say you are.

Go to middlebury. Like 2 hrs max from the best Vermont resorts.

54 minutes to Killington
2 hours 24 minutes to Mount Snow
1 hour 24 minutes to Stowe
1 hour 10 minutes to Okemo
2 hours 25 minutes to Jay Peak

They've got their own resort too.

Come to USC. great school - epic ski team. surf during the week

i live in washington and its a good hour and a half commute to stevens pass and about an hour to snoqualmie from seattle which is where UW is so if you wanna ski all the time, not the place to go

Haha pretty sure nobody has said CC. Colorado College. Best school in CO. A little far from skiing but not bad. 2 hours to Berck, Copper, Keystone and A-basin. 2:15 to WinterPark 2:30 from Vail 4 from Crested Butte 6 to telluride. Unreal skiing and an epic school.

M.S.U. Montana State University Bozeman. Great college. What are u going for? Three mountains very close. One is like 20 minutes away. Other two about an hour or so. Bridger bowl is a sick mountain and has some really nice terrain and lots of Chutes. Very interesting mountain. Big Sky Resort is a big mountain with lots of Good mountain skiing and a good park, and Moonlight basin is on the other side of big sky, and has a Good park for like half the price of big sky. Also Great Divide, is prolly about 2 hours away, and they have a very dialed park... so i guess thats about 4 mountains pretty close, and the 3 mountains i mentioned earlier all have a shuttle bus going from campus to the mountains. depends on what your major is. they dont offer like 2 degrees here is all.

Common man, do a search take some initiative there are sooo many threads about college on here.

But check out

UBC (in the top 40 uni's in the world)
USC
University of Washington
UVM

what exactly do you want to do? You pick one that has your major and then you look where a good school is located for skiing that offers said major. An example back east is BU vs BC, both good schools but offer very different programs.

bc isnt close to any mountains. the closest mountain is an hour and a half away and you just get to ski wachusett and it sucks. uvm is close to stowe and not too far from jay. union isnt bad, its in new york but its fairly close to mt snow. skidmore also. out west, u of u, university of denver, uc bolder...there are a shit load.

I would highly reccomend Western Washington, it's a fairly selective school with great Academics.. It's in close proximity to Mt.Baker, then not too far is stevens pass, the BC resorts, etc...It's extremely beautiful there too, right on the ocean...

UBC is pretty sick its an hour an a half from Whistler and I am pretty sure there are several local mountains in and around vancouver which are pretty sick. Its also a very good school and easy to get into.

Colby college is pretty close (an hour or so) from sugarloaf and about 1:45 from sunday river. bates is close by too, but im not sure the exact distances.

middlebury and dartmouth are also very very good schools.

BU and BC are not close to skiing. I live in Boston right smack between the two campuses... the closest real skiing is at least 2 hours away (i don't really count wachusetts and nashoba etc). If you are going to drive 2 hours for skiing you might as well be somewhere out west. Plus tolls, gas, and traffic around Boston can really add up in terms of costs and aggrivation. If you are actually smart try Williams, Amherst, Dartmouth, and Middleburry. UVM, Umass Amherst, and UNH are decent schools and probably all have honors programs that may be worth a look at as well. I skiied maybe twice in my entire college career (was a pro mountain biker at the time and pro-beer-drinker so that consumed all of my time).

Montana--the one in Bozeman.  Believe its Montana State.  anyway, my friends bro is going there to be an engineer, and bridger bowl is like 15minutes away, with free ski buses everyday, and big sky is less than an hour away.

ya msu is the name its sick, they have a good enginearering program, and architecture school. the only things they dont offer is nursing and something else. so if your going into that dont go there. prestigious architecture program. lots of skiing... and if u go west u have to ride powder. i love powder even in butteryass center mounted park skis.

Gonzaga University (pretty close to Schweitzer and some other decent little mountains)

Middlebury (really good school)

It really depends on if you want a smaller private school education or a public school education as well as what you want to study and what kind of place you want to live. 

I know a lot about Univ of Denver, Gonzaga, and CU-Boulder, lemme know if you have questions.  Also if you are as smart as you say you are then you should be able to get a dam good scholarship to any schools especially private schools.

the only problem with places like denver and colorado college, is that they are so expensive to begin with that they end up being similarly priced to much better schools even after scholarships. for example, i got a 22 thousand dollar scholarship per year to denver, but it is still the same price for me to go there as it would be to go to miami of ohio, which is a top 15 business school in the nation

bottom line is, i say go to a school where you will get the best education, and after you have a good job and money to afford it, go move to colorado and ski all you want with the security of having that good job and education
