Not sure how well known Kiva is, I was just introduced to it in my economics class. I think its a really great organization to support and I wanted to spread the word.

Kiva is a non-profit organization that connects entrepreneurs in the developing world with people who are willing to lend them funds through a system of microfinance. It is a unique program in that it allows an individual to lend to another individual, a transaction that usually requires an established bank. However, large banks see too much risk in providing loans to people who have little or no money to begin with. The goal of Kiva is to help alleviate poverty by providing loans to small businesses that are run by individuals or families. Not only does a loan help the family towards economic independence but also has a profound impact on the community.
