I think it comes mostly from douches reporting videos. But they also feed the audio through whatever and check to see if they have that song in their database of what they know not to have.

Does it really hurt the music industry to use a song in a video? Most people don't make any money off youtube videos so it seems like they are just getting their tampons in a bunch.

yeah, i also want to know how they know which videos to remove for inappropriate content, like they don't go through every single video, do they?

i think that is found by reports too. then they probably have people patrolling constantly looking for bad content.
as far as the audio goes, im pretty sure they have some kind of program that looks for certain audio patterns.

I can see how they would get mad about it, I download tons of music off of youtube, just use http://www.listentoyoutube.com/ and copy and paste the address of the video.

yeah thats what i was thinking. my buddy posted a vid on facebook like 2 hours ago and they deleted it before i could even watch it. what if we just raised the tone of the music by a little so it would change the song just enough for the detector thing to not to notice? im going to try and see if it works

The reason they are doing that is because when you buy or download a song you can only listen to it. You dont have any rights to use it in a video. So they have a system or something to removes the songs. Youtube used to pay record companies a fraction of a cent everytime one of those songs were played in a video but youtube stopped paying so they had to take off all the music in the videos. Its going to happen more and more. my videos are gone on youtube and facebook because if they dont remove it record companies will take legal action. Its dumb but its because you can download a video and seperate the audio to steal songs. Its dumb but we cant do much about it

It's the RIAA continueing to shoot themselves in their remaining limbs. If the videos were being used to make money, then okay but 99.99% of the deletions are absurd.
The RIAA is just an ancient machine that refuses to evolve with the times.
