aright i got two tabs running so i can look at the pics and write this haha.
first off, they are def good shots for a point and shoot, and seeing surfing pics gets me so pumped to go home. secondly, where is this?
first pic- kinda just a typical picture, nothing too special. the wave is nice so i enjoy it, but it's kinda just a normal lineup shot
second shot- i could see what you were going for with the pattern/repetition, but i would've just got in there tighter or even just cropped it after. with an slr you could've played around more with focus and stuff, but since it's just a point and shoot i'd say it's pretty good.
third shot- i personally like this one the best because you get a feel of the surfers control during the sort of turmoil that is going on. there's nothing too special like composition wise with it, but the timing was great. just another option that prob wasn't available for you because of the limited zoom range, is to just get in there tighter and focus on the surfer, but w/e it's everyone's own style.
fourth shot- could've been better if you got closer to the subjects and captured the emotion on both the surfer and the older guys face. it also would've avoided cutting off the very top of the surfers head.
fifth shot- i think there's too many contrasting lines at weird angles, and the diagonal handrail directly in the middle of the frame blocks the break. i would've tried to get in front of those down handrails and if u wanted something in the foreground just include part of the horizontal rail. this would also probably work better as a black and white because of the similar color between the rail and the water. and again, with an slr you would've had better control over focus so u could blur out the rails a little.
sixth shot- i really like this one too. u lose some of the surfers near the rocks but that's cause of the wetsuits so u can't do anything about that. not much more you could do i don't think, it's a good photo
seventh shot- again, good wave, but nothing too special with the shot. just my opinion but maybe keep it in color and zoomed or cropped in closer to just focus towards the break and mist. the grass and stuff in the foreground is kinda just boring since there's no real subject or anything there.
keep in mind i'm no where near a great photographer and i just got back into it after stopping for a while, so these are just some things i think would be cool, but they might not actually have come out better. as i said before though, there's def some good shots for a point and shoot
