I went to grad school with a girl from Malawi and my gf goes to school with some people from Ghana - to be honest with you before I met these people i had the same stereotype of africa as most other people.  people dancing around a campfire in nothing but a loin cloth with crazy piercings and body paint...living in villages without electricity, running water, real buildings, etc...hunting wild animals on the sahara desert to feed the tribe...ya know, shit like that. 

it was really interesting to meet people from the continent to be able to ask them about shit like that.  they all laugh and basically write it off -  "Yeah, that's what everybody thinks about Africa.  It's really not much different from the US, Canada, or Europe. Sure there are places that are very poor and underdeveloped, but not everything is like that."

yes there is the developed part of of Africa, but there's also the 3rd world part. to me, blood diamond, child soldiers, disease(not just aids) and lion king. plus all the shit that goes down in southern Africa, like shark attacks.

i read the whole fucking post, idiot. but to think that the entirety of Africa is still tribes is definitely ignorant.

I know its ignorant for people to think all of africa is a desert or whatever... but whenever i think of Africa i just get an image like in one of those typical ads wanting people to donate stuff... some crappy mud huts with fly covered black skinny kids.
