Theyre all gonna be huge in 09. Drake is sick. I think he's gonna be huge in 2009. He's done some stuff with wayne and I think hes really really good. listen to uptown on youtube if you havent heard of him.

Asher Roth is filthy too. His mixtape is so good, I love college is good, but his other stuff like cannon is ridiculous.

Check em out if you dont know who these guys are if youre into rap, because i have a feeling everyone will know pretty soon.

Alright well thats your opinion then, i think he's good. just because you dont like him doesnt mean everyone needs to "stop this asher roth stuff" i just like his rhymes.

yea i know it's my opinion and i dont mean to hate even tho i really am, but so many people are talking about him and trying to blow him up, but he really doesnt bring anything new to the table

he reminds me of a better eminem, not ebcause hes white, their voices just sound similar..but by something new i hope you dont think someone like tpain or kanye is being revolutionary with their voice synth. because its getting a little ridiculous with shit like that. I hope you like drake at least haha

i did. i said because their voices sound similar. I didnt say anything about their sound being the same, its an immediate reminder because the vocals are usually the first thing recognized in a song. they dont rhyme the same, or use the same beats, i just was reminded of him the first time i listened.

i definitely agree with you about Drake. He's sick for sure and i have been listening to "so far gone" a lot lately. "uptown" is the best song on there IMO. its a riot that hes the kid from degrassi that was in the wheelchair if you ever watched that show

theyre definitely gunna be big. I like Charles the best though. Asher Roth will get big just for being unique, he has good music but hes creating his own style of hip hop which is what will make him popular. Theres a ton of new artist though that are really good including these guys: Kid Cudi, Wale, B.o.B., Corey Gunz, and more. You can probably find their mixtapes to download on datpliff.com or searching for them

i agree with you about kid cudi, i like him a lot, but i dont see it with corey gunz. sure he was on a milli and everything but hes not really a new rapper. hes been rapping since he was 14 and his dad has been in the game since like 1994. some of you must remember deja vu by lord tariq and peter gunz

I'm just confused why all the hip hop/rap blogs are pumpin him up like crazy. Sure he has flow, but he talks about immature college broish stuff, why would all the people who love urban hip hop be in to his stuff.

I'm a suburban white kid and I can't even get in to his newer stuff. Lark on my Go-Kart? Come on...

But to the OP. I agree that this is gonna be a great year for all things hip hop. I'm especially loving all the collabs with more electronic artists; lykke li, santogold, peter bjorn and john, and the list goes on and on. That's one of the things that's really attracting me back to hip hop after listening to purely reggae for a long time.

haha not at all, he's the only one to make it "big" though.  i can't tell you how many white college mc's i've seen that destroy his written work with their freestyles, they just don't know some people who know some people or sound like eminem so they don't bust through.  and agrreing with the other kid up a little earlier, you make a song about how "crazy" college is, everyone is gonna start playing it.

yeah i agree. hes not gonna be like the next tupac or biggie but hes definitely talking about things that are more relatable than drug wars and gangs. not that i dont like gangster rap because i do, but it makes more sense to a kid living the life i am to hear about girls and college parties rather than what most rappers are talking about.

i would have to agree with foodisfun. asher roth's work (notably "i love college") is some of the lamest, insignificant broish material i have ever heard. he is terrible. i do not want to hear about his beer pong game last night where he and his bros got drunk and smoked weed and then ate $1 slices of pizza together. he even says in the song that he learned absolutely nothing in college---that's blatantly evident based on the content of his lyrics. critics praise him for writing about the minutiae of the suburban college lifestyle but when its that facetious there's no point in even mentioning that crap. he attempts to come off as insightful but fails miserably. that song pretty much stands for everything i am against. i really cannot take anyone serious who praises that shit.

like i said, i love college is definitely my least favorite of his songs. i dont think its very good, catchy for sure, but i agree that what he is saying is pretty lame. but can you blame him for putting out a song to catch the ear of all college kids? hes playing up to everyone, knowing that everyone will listen. you said it yourself, you dont like it, but youve heard it. every person i know in college from the kid with a full ipod of great music to the girl that knows lil wayne for a millie and thinks soulja boy's crank dat was genius, have all heard asher roths first single. he knows what will sell, and for a white college kid trying to get his name out there, putting out i love college as a first hit was genius.

yea haha just to prove that i dont hate him i definately wish i thought of the song first haha. because although the beat is stolen from say it ain't so, and the lyrics compare to poetry i wrote in 3rd grade, there's probably more than triple the amount of people that love the song than hate it.  so i can't say i blame him for gettin that paper

when it comes to the "better" argument, no one is ever going to win. It's a matter of opinion, and in mine, I think his voice, rhymes, etc. are better than those of Eminem. I love Eminem don't get me wrong, but I think Asher's songs, other than I love College have a lot of promise to them. The way he links things together is pretty legit. He has amazing flow. Like I said, listen to cannon.

That asher roth cannon song is some absolute shit IMO. Not to hate, but some of his rhymes sounded like me when I try to rap (eg. hit the fanny, rhymes are uncanny, etc.). You may say his flow is unique, but imo that is because he just has absolutely no flow whatsoever.

ill give you guys credit on that one, but think about it. what would be worse, him rapping about stupid silly things or about gangs and violence and a hard life when he has no experience with it?its kind of like youre saying you need to be struggling to be a rapper you know?which i think is kinda dumb

his dope mixtape. the other mixtapes were just compiled by fan sites of his recent work with various artists. and it's poke her face. now named make her say, i believe. his shit with chip tha ripper is fire. chip's another artist i'm really excited about.

charles hamilton was tight in my opinion, but he's just gotten annoying and him getting slapped like a bitch by a chick was pretty priceless. i just don't respect him as much anymore for a few different reasons. i think his hype train has gone off the tracks.

I agree with most of your post, especially what you said about each artist. The thing I didn't agree with was what I quoted... Just trying to spark some debate see what everyone else thinks.

So yeah. The point of music is to showcase talent? Sure most people can appreciate talent, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it is the point of music. Music is a form of expression, a form of art and creativity; the point being to get accross a feeling, create an atmoshphere, evoke sentiments, portray ideas, etc.  It is the universal language. The better you are at speaking a language the easier it is to express yourself. I feel talent has the same relationship with music. The more talented you are the easier it is to express yourself. But people less talented can still create something just as provocative.

I'm all for talent, just saying it is not a defining factor when determining whether music is good or not.
