I defintely thought about it, but when it came down to it I didn't want the bulk of a body and lenses/flashes.  I like being able to carry my camera with me everywhere.  Still incredible picture quality with more than enough custom options for me.

Exactly.  There is definitely a good niche for compact cameras, and a lot of the newer ones have really good IQ for what they are.  For some people it's definitely worth it to haul around all the gear, but having a small camera that's easy and convenient can be really nice.  I know carrying 30lbs of camera gear and hiking stuff through the desert the past week wore on me quite a bit.
