What to buy-STI or EVO

Im selling my truck and im trying to pick up one of the two cars above. Wondering what you guys have heard about them likes dislikes and what not.

And if anyone is interested in a Nissan Titan pm. me and ill give you some pics and info.

it depends on the year if you ask me.. i love the viii and the ix evos, but i hate the x's
i also hate the gr sti's.. so haha sorry that this post wasn't very useful

Personally I like the older models of both. I would die for an evo 8 but I would also take almost any sti. Personally I would want a sleeper outback.

Both cars are sick, but I don't really like Mitsubishi interiors - they all look cheap. I'd go for the STI

Are you looking at both models brand new? so 08/09 models? Or are you going to get a used model?

Depends on the year, if you are getting a newer model I'd take the EVO because the STI wagon is kind of meh. But you can't go wrong with an '06 STI Subaru Blue with the big wing and those gold riiiiiiims

I drive an evo 8 and my brother drives an 06 sti. After driving both, I think the evo drives and handles much better, but I've been spending so much more for maintenance. Evos are just japanese rust buckets. My brother's sti has been driving great and has had no issues with maintenace. Plus mitsubishi is a bitch when it comes to dealing with warranty issues, especially if you have any kind of aftermarket work done. Coming from an evo driver, I'd say go with the sti.

def get the sti mitusbishi is such a shitty company and yes they make one sick car but all the otheres pretty much blow u dont see very much if any at all out when u see tons of subarus.

Are you getting a new one? Or like an 03-06?

If its an older one:
Evo = If you just want the fastest car
STI = If you want an easier car to live with

If your buying a new one, go for an Evo.  They've been kicking Subie's ass lately.

buy an older sti, like 05-06. so sick. the evos are faster, but really they just aren't a good car as far as reliability from what i've heard. only way i'd recommend one is if you're buying brand new.

It all depends on what your looking at. Is it gonna be new of the lot or used? Both EVO's and STI's are baller as fuck so you can't really lose. It also depends on what your going to do with the car like rally, time attack, or just a daily driver. Both had a shit ton of aftermarket stuff that you can buy so I wouldn't worry about that too much. I know someone said the EVO handled better but it all depends on the suspension. If your gonna get coilovers, springs, sway bars, struts, etc. So really I'd take a real hard look at what you want you want to do with the car. My personal opinion would be to get a 04/05 WRB or White STI. But again that's what I'd get so base your decision on your wants and needs.

dont know much about either car but i know subarus last long and are dependable. my last car that i beat to shit last to 275,000 miles would have kept going but the blower motor stopped and we werent going to spend $400 to get it replaced.

i'll admit that subaru's dick is so far down my throat that i occasionally choke, but cmon now. i drive a wrx and i can say with complete authority that subie makes awesome cars.  besides, in my humble opinion, STI's look classy whereas evos just scream rice

I came to the same conclusion. I'm buying a mkiv R32 this summer once schools out.

But it DEFINITELY isn't as fast as an evo or sti stock. Classier and more unique IMO, but I think the guy who made this thread has his mind set and is wanting something hardcore.

Anyways, to the creator.

Having driven both cars (07 sti and evo VIII), I would honestly say that I would buy the suby.

They are so damn comparable in terms of performance (evo has a slight upper hand and feels "lighter"), but for livability, comfort, and quality, Subaru ftw.

You can't go wrong either way man. Which years are you looking at? Also, prepare to be HOSED on insurance. :D

Love the response.

I also a bit more infatuated with Subaru than I probably should be. The sound of a deep boxer growl always gets my attention on the roads. I have not driven either an STi or an Evo, but I do own an 06 WRX Ltd. and love it. From what I have gathered, Mitsubishi is a bit less appealing in the interior aspect, but that they are well-powered, great handling cars.

If a 2007 STi Ltd. is available to you, I would go that route, althought the Recaro's found stock in some Evo's are amazing.

Bottom line, you can't really go wrong with either car to my knowledge. Both cars would be a fucking blast to drive.

My family's been Subaru since I was like 10. Both cars.
The first one we had lasted 11 years. 11 years! We ditched it 'cause the sunroof kept braking and poppa bear wanted something with a bit more .... life. Anwyay, my dad drives the wrx it's fecking amazing.
And let me just put it this way, if you drive an STI there's a 93.7% chance I'd sleep with you. Just as long as you don't have any actual STI's..........

You have no idea how stoked I am. After lusting for 4 years until they changed the bumper law (admissibility into Canada)...and now I have to wait until may once exams are over so I can make a trip down to pick up...bah!

I spend all my extra time on autotrader and vwvortex scoping everything out haha. torture!

Depends. There are a few right now with 10-20K for around 21000$ and CLEAN.

Nothing's really moving in car sales these days, so I know that there's going to be something perfect around in 2 months or so.

I'll just have to wait and see what's on the market. KBB value for something with low miles is around 21K...so that looks like the number...

Why is an STi easier to live with than an Evo?

Styling the Evo wins in my opinion.

Although if you ask me the whole "too fast too furious race car thing" peaked a few years ago and now it is dieing off.

You will wish you had just bought an audi a3 to haul your gear around in 2 years time.

Then you will wish you didn't get the bigger engine because insurance is really kicking your ass....

Then you will complain that the bigger engine has a plot against you to drive you broke by means of guzzling gas.

Someone mentioned in this thread one of the cars was easier to live with....

Who or why mention an A3? Thats what I want hah. Spent a bunch of money on a car 5 years ago myself, a $13k car with over $10k in bullshit on it. Could have just put a down payment on a Mercedes you know?

A3 = awd on 3.2L, pimp luxury, nice styling, you can find factory rims that look slick, hid headlights, more storage room....

My friend has an STi, he loves it, although it is incredibly small and less functional. But I was mainly curious as to what reasoning someone would have that one of these cars is easier to live with, while another is just fast....

just make sure to get a through pre-buy inspection. how many miles does it have on it?

just get EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING checked because there have been so many cases that these cars have been brutally beat on and have big problems for the next owner.

thanks bro.. its got 32000 on it, i could tell its been beat on a little due to the lack of boost past 4500 rpm's but i took it to a dealership and found out it needs a reflash and a few of the vacume lines are all kinked up but subaru said they would cover it so thats good.

mmhm. low miles at least for that year. are you doing it through a suby dealer? any mods on it? also, check for structural damage.

Seriously. I was 95% on buying an sti two years ago. clean record, mint, everything. on the final inspection they found some previous subframe cracking that had been very well covered up... which would have been super shitty.
