Not Sounding Like a Dick?

Hey, so i need to talk to my lacrosse coach about why i didn't make varsity. I'm actually the only guy who played last year that didn't get called up, and i'm really about in the middle of the team skill wise, and i definitely should be on varsity (my opinion/ most of the rest of my teams)

but my question is more how to approach talking to him about it, because i don't want to be a dick to him and act like i'm better than everyone else and deserve to be on varsity no matter what.

any suggestions on possible conversation outlines/openers?

my brothers sophomore year he didnt get varsity, so he just fucking slayed the shit out of the first few jv games and got like 8 goals a game and got bumped up. just do that? or talk to one of the captains on varsity and have them suggest you get bumper up?

Sometimes, you have to sound like one. Make him see that you want it.


Maybe start by saying:
"Hey Coach, I was just wondering why i am still on JV? I really want to be on the varsity squad and was wondering if there was anything to do to get me on there?"

And at that point, he pulls out his dick.....


BAM! Varsity!

Approach the situation has as a learning one. Simple indulge your coach as to what parts of your game you could work on so you could play at a varsity level. The coach most likely wont take this as hostility and you will most likely learn something so that next time there is a chance to be called up that part of your game will be par will varsity level and thus making it an easy decision for the coach to call you up.

that same thing just happened to my friend, he asked the coach and he said it was so jv could actually stand a chance cuz every1 else sucks. just ask him what u need 2 do 2 make varsity thats the best way to do it without sounding like a dick

that was my first thought, but the rest of the JV team has actually never played before, so the chances of me getting the ball ever are pretty slim.

i kinda know how you feel man. i mean im not cut or anything, im a sophomore, but a friend of mine got offered to move up by our coach because our coach loves the kid and we play the same position. I know im better than him (sorry, im not trying to be cocky...). the coach is also just an idiot, i know 2x as much lacrosse as he does

basically, go up to the coach and say hey coach, i just want to talk to you about not making the team and all, to see how i can improve. Tell him your were really suprised and dissapointed when you didnt make the team. ask him why you didnt and if maybe you could prove him that you can keep up.

dude, same thing happened to me with baseball. My junior year, I got pushed down because my coach felt I screwed around too much during practice and shit, which was true to some extent, but not in a disruptive manner. He told me to be more like my brother who played for him years earlier and I just said fuck you asshole. Not really, but got bumped to JV, hit like 750 average in the first few scrimmages of the season and was brought back up lol. My coach was a dick.

If you didnt make the team sack up and deal with it. If the coach thought you were good enough you would have made the cut. Dont make headaches for him now, the decision has been made.

I'm not trying to make a headache for him, i just want to know why. I'm not even saying i deserve to be on varsity (well... i kind of am) but i really just want to know why he thought i wasn't up to snuff

As some other people said go to him looking at it possitively and asking not why you're not on the team but how what you can do to get on the team. Don't complain that you're not on the team, or say that you think you should be.  Just get how you can improve then show him that you are willing to work to improve.  If you want just small things but show up 15 minutes early to training and warm up, stay 15 minutes after to practice.  If you are as good as you say, these should show your coach that you are ready to play for the team you want to and that you are dedicated enough to get your skill level up.

the same thing happened to a friend of mine. we both played varsity hockey freshman year. this year i started a bunch of games and he was on jv. he was pissed but didnt say anything. after three weeks of working really hard they put him on varsity. so id say just play your best and show the coach that you should be on varsity.

Talk to your captains about this! Their supposed to be the bridge between the players and the coach, so definitely go to one of them.

if anything, asking him why your not on varsity will only show your interest in the team. if he sees an improvement, he may be more prone to put you on the team
