Buying a Longboard

So last night I got really fucking drunk and went longboarding.  I've done quite a lot of longboarding before (usually drunk), but this time was pretty special.  It was just a super mellow hill to start out with that then got stupidly steep and fast, long story short I got blood all over my tall t, possibly slightly concussed, and pretty in love with longboarding.  So its time to buy one.

I saw that whirling dervish video and totally wanted one of those, but I'm shopping in the $150-$200 range (for a complete) so that probably out.

I heard the kracked skulls m1's are basically a cheap version, but that board looks really thick and stiff to me.  Are they basically just solid?  It seems that way.  I want something pretty flexy and pop-y so I can bounce up and down and fuck around and such, but I'm also 190lbs.  But it just doesn't seem like the M1 would flex period.

What are Bustin boards like?  I was looking at the Complex.  It looks like it would be pretty flexy and fun, and has a cool shape.  The Bustin Strike looks cool too but I think it might be a little short, I'm 6'2 so I was looking for around 42".

I was considering the Earthwin Supercharger as well but somebody told me they don't really have any flex either.

I'm going to pretty much just be either fucking around/carving on slight hills or bombing big hills, I probably won't be using the board to get places because I have a car, so pump-ability isn't a massive issue.  I want something I can do slides with.

Suggestions?  I've really only ridden Sector 9's because thats what everyone has.

46 is fine for cruising and playing around. anything 36 and up is going to be great for cruising. if you get shorter you will be able to make tighter turns but it isn't as roomy for your feet.

I'd go 44 max dude, don't go flexy, go fast.  Maybe it's just because i live in North Van, but if i'm going skating.. I WANNA GO FAST.  Make some slide gloves, buy a fullface, buy some  knee pads and a leather  jacket or full leathers and  start speedboarding.  There's nothing better than rippin a bleezey and going down a hill so fast that you legit think you'll die if you fall, nothing, nothing.

sounds like a racer. you ever go out to danger bay? or come down to the states for maryhill loops?

Infact I got my first board at christmas, so I am going to be a racer.. as of now i have the option of going to db8 but entry is 100 dollars and i don't think i will place yet.  On the other hand in this short period of time i have skated with brian peck, chapman, switchback longboarding racing team etc. so i've progressed ridiculously fucking fast.  Think about picking up skiing with people like Tom wallisch around and stuff, same deal.. I still don't have a racing board, or leathers so i've only hit 70 kmh with only elbow pads on my knees and a fullface lol.  Next year i think i'm definitely going to maryhill.

that's sick man, i don't race, but i got to go to maryhill to watch some of the races and they were awesome. mischo erban and martin siegrist were the top racers i think at that race.

I have yet to meet mischo, but i skate with coast which is made up of people like Mike Mcgoldrick, Andrew Chapman, Bricin Lyons, Keven reimers etc etc so the learning curve is a quick one :D

I'm thinking about getting a KS longboard and I was wondering if a 46 inch M1 with 72 mm powerballs would be good for just cruising and some carving?

btw im 5'7 140

thanks but i was wondering more the wheels

does anyone know (grammer?) how well a 78a duro 72mm for just cruising and some carving?            btw the edges are rounded and i read in another thread on longboards that rounded wheels don't get as good a grip as wheels with square edges is this true?

Get square edges and the lowest duro they have.  Unless where you live the roads are super smooth, then you could go about midrange.

ok thanks i think im going to get it with the 70mm flashbacks. and when you buy it do the wheels come with bearings in them or do i need to also buy a set of bearings?

you usually need to buy some bearings. i like buying bones reds, cuz they are cheap and run for a pretty long time. if you want to spend more and go faster get some ceramics, they move like crazy.

I just got my KS m1 in the mail. Do they all come with like sand griptape? Because mine did.

FUCK. I cannot figure out how to mount the trucks onto the board... any tips?

stick the bolts in the holes and then hold them in with your hand while flipping the board up side down so they don't fall out, and then put the trucks on the bolts and flip the board back over right side up, hand tighten the nuts on and then use tools to crank them down enough.
