I've felt this year for years, but lately the magazine has become a source to promote the top 20 skiers in our sport in a way that makes skiers want to quit skiing.

we need a mag that show and represents whats really going on and showcases guys like jon brogan, wesson, the kid with the big ass teeth, parry, hornbeck, and all the other dudes that ski for the love and actually progress the sport.

I guess I just miss freeze.

but if you want to make a change you have to act, cancel your subscriptions to this shitty ass mag, and if you got the skilz start something new.!!!!

I agree with this. but i think this is a little harsh. I mean it's nice to see whats going on with t wall and henrik. dont say for a second that guys like henrik and t wall and others aren't progressing the sport. i mean sure we all have heard enough about t hall and simon. i agree that it would be nice to have some more articles that aren't about the simon and t hall at the x games.
Just IMO.

i understand what your saying toatally, bit i do really enjoy reading about the gear, all the sick pix, and just  that shit in general,

instead of canceling subscriptions maybe we, the NS community, can come up with an online petition and ask them to cover a broader range of athelets and upcoming skiiers instead of, as you said, the top 20.

mainstream? and u other haters? are u kidding me, they do the best job they can and props to harvey for keepin the articles legit, and always a good selection of photos. i still enjoy it.

if they are too main stream then im gonna start a magazine with just a bunch of douchey lookin dudes in massive tall tees and u can ahve that for 50 bucks a month k?

I really enjoyed their "letters to the editor" portion of the magazine where the called out many kids on their poor grammar and mechanical errors, when the magazine is flooded with errors of the nature.

And I feel that to be a writer for them, the qualifications only go up to a high school creative writing class.

So aside from the text of the magazine the pretty pictures are nice.

i mean thats kinda a retarded idea. think about it, who would pay money for a NS mag, if they can go on NS and see all thats in the mag, plus more, for free? this idea comes up all the time and it just doesnt make sense in any way

cant really compare freeskier to ns cause the whole reason ns isnt promoting the same top 20 athletes is because its a user based media. if they made a mag it would defeat the whole purpose because it wouldnt be people submitting theyre own stuff...it would be just like freeskier with an editor choosing what gets published. that said i like both because they are different

WHy was Freeze any different?
Its a good mag, but its not great, just be happy we have more than powder and skiing. seriously.
The writing is pretty 4/10, but the pics are great. the mag is short, too short considering you only get 6 issues. There is no reason you cant have 12 issues. And endless stories. bah, maybe it is a ripoff.

I am a freeskier contributor. I work with the people in that office and I think most of the NS.com members posting in this thread don't completely understand how complex the whole thing really is.

First off, my qualifications and those of the Freeskier staff members far exceed that of a high schooler - grad or not.

Freeskier and Freeskier.com are here for you and run by a small group of over-tasked people like Harvey and Dave. They work harder than any of you know. And much like most of this industry, everyone in that office is working much harder than what they're paid. The two aforementioned work nearly round the clock and seven-days-a-week. And they do it for far less than their peers' salaries.

I won't dispute the errors. They are in the magazine and never make anyone look good. The best way to change this is to contribute. Seriously. Get your writing game up to par and contribute work that doesn't require 25 hours of corrections.

Lastly, I don't know any of those skiers in Colorado and don't write about them. I live in the PNW and write about the people and places in the PNW. My stories aren't hitting till next season, but don't cancel that subscription just yet. I think you'll really enjoy the new stuff!

People just don't get it, its one thing to say "do this to your magazine or website" but it takes so much work to do something different, Ive been to the NS office and these guys are working all day trying to fill orders, mod the site, make and cut stickers, work on projects like the gear guide, etc. Yet people always want something more and expect things to get done right away. They don't appreciate what they have, if there was no NS and no Freeskier then what? Where else would you get all this stuff? Stop the hate, appreciate the work that is being done for you

Thats pretty much the website you are on now.  News, contests, forums, articles, and more!  The only good part about a magazine is the fact that i can cut out sick pics and make ill poster collages out of them.

If you have a problem with freeskier because it promotes the top 20 pros and you think that makes it an inaccurate representation of our sport then you are a tool. Seriously, this is what happens in all sports. There will always be a group of top athletes who get publicized more than anyone else. Why? Because they are better.

Keep in mind, freeskier can only publish what is submitted. If there was a damn good article about some smaller guys that got submitted, you think it would be published? Hell yes.

As for your list of people who you would like to be more publicized, they are all the typical names that newschoolers.com would know. You're forgetting that there is a huge amount of competition skiers, locals from other areas, and euro kids that absolutely fucking KILL it, without any recognition whatsoever. I also noticed you didn't mention any of the under-publicized big mountain and pow skiers that slay, but oh well, I guess skiing to you is park. If you can't turn thats not my problem.

As for the vision of our sport needing more tall tees, fuck anyone who thinks that. I hate seeing people with huge clothing dressed up like thugs at ski hills. It embarrasses me, and I don't want anyone to think that that is what skiers look like.

Thank you freeskier, for being an awesome publication, and giving people an accurate representation of the great sport of freeskiing.

Freeskier has way too much exposure for there to be less than amazing photography. stills don't show how awesome a trick is, a straight air with a sick grab is way better looking than a sw10 in a photo. Plus a good photographer can capture good tricks with an artisitc flair. I'd rather see an epic pillow line shot, than a kid mid switch up on a 10ft flat bar in the park. photographers have a hard enough time getting complained to by bitchy riders, they don't need fags from the east coast complaining about not seeing enough park in a shitty magazine.

i don't understand how they "only cover the same pros" look at the last issue: Josh Bibby raped that magazine and i hardly hear about him, he is one of the most underrated skiers out there. Matt Walker has been in several shots and so has Henrik, they did a profile on TWall and B-Dog so I don't see who is not being talked about. obviously they aren't going to have an issue with only Superunknowns because people who aren't big into the sport but read the mag have no idea who these people are. I'm not saying make this into a gaper mag but it has to cater to a large demographic
