Jump design (angles and what not)

just wondering if anyone here knows where i can get some specs on jump building? I am doing a design project for university and i need to get some actual specs. any help would be awesome.

i basically need
-jump angles
-landing angles

rough and dirty works for me

take off should be a 45 degree angle and giant deck to flat. Always flat.

I'm currently looking at the November 1999 issue of Powder magazine. In that issue there's an article called Inversion and it's about Superpark 1. There's a page on all of the jumps at Superpark 1 including the lengths and angles of all of the jumps. I'll scan it now and post it asap.

What you're looking for is on page 3. You'll notice that the landings are usually a few degrees more then the takeoff, and the bigger the gap, the more the landing is angled. I'll post the whole article because it is a good read, especially for anyone who has  got into skiing in the last few years. This is our roots!

Holy shit !
That article was rediculous.
Philou Poirier throwing a sw backflip on a 74 footer, I would still be impressed to see that trick. Also the 900 he threw in the 12 foot pipe is impressive. All the setup were guetto and sick tricks were thrown.
Even 10 years after, the last sentence of page 1 is still so true.

That article was sweet. They need to republish that one.

 As a general rule of thumb, the park I work at sets the landing at the same angle as the take off. However the bigger the jump gets, the longer the landing needs to be. Sometimes we go a little steeper but the length of the landing is as important as the slope.

as a general rule, when an object is thrown at an angle, it lands about on the same angle. ie: if you have a jump thats a 45 degree take off, and in a perfect atmosphere, if you make the landing 45 as well, the landing should be perfect providing the length is right. google projectile motion and you can figure out how to make a perfect jump, or at least on paper.
but for all intensive purposes, have the take off and landing be about the same, and if anything make the landing a little steeper and make it long.

Oh, and physics classes work wonders for jump building. Everything depends on pitch and speed, speed is key.

Totally had that issue! I'm choked I threw all my old issues out over the years. That flat 3 (lincon) japan sequence by Douglas is bangin. So sick even by today's standards...

I vote you scan all your old mags to give the ns members of today a little history lesson (and to give us ol timers a little something to reminisce about).

Interesting paper. Do you know the guy that wrote it? I'd love to discuss some of it with him..

I'm looking at the jump angles on p.55, the angles seem to be between 80 and 115.. Makes no sense to me, any idea what the units are for this?

I would imagine just from the figures that it is a percentage slope, i.e 80% slope 80cm up for every meter forward etc. So 100 would = 45 degrees. But thats just a guess.
