I disagree with one small thing in your post. I am a big protector of those that ride, and i understand that a majority of accidents are caused by one of the things you mentioned (stupidity basically, and more often than not other drivers).
i also understand that those who ride motorcycles do so for the hobby, not for utility purposes (generally), and this tends to make them safer on the road than the average car driver.
my problem is that you said it is not at all dangerous if you know how to ride properly and pay attention. you yourself said that other drivers are the cause of many accidents. that alone makes riding a motorcycle more dangerous than a car. on top of that are environmental hazards that are more likely to bring down a bike. and then, after all that, a motorcycle is more likely to crash out of sheer circumstance (oil or sand on the road). And dont forget about the actual crash. T bone your car at 35 mph into another car, hopefully with a seat belt you will leave with minor injuries. Do that on a bike, and you could die without protection, and be seriously injured even with protection.
trust me, i understand the passion for riding, and im not trying to dissuade you from the bike. saying its not at all dangerous just is not right, and the truly experienced bikers will acknowledge this and continue to ride anyways, as a risk that they are willing to take (much like trying to flip or spin on skis off a jump).
