What questions do you ask when your friends get concussed?

So today my buddy crashed off a kicker, wasn't wearing a helmet, and hit his head.  So to decide if he was concussed we asked him a few questions...

1) What's your name?
Response - Steven.

2)What's day is it?
Response - 2009.

3)Who is our president?
Response - My president is black, my lambo is blue.

Turns out he had only a minor concussion, he was alright.

Any other funny concussion stories NS?

i tried a lawn dart off jump 5 in the park at PC over xmas break (not kings the other one at the bottom w/ the pipe i dont remember teh name) and went a good 30ft into the flats, stomped 4 point landing....then my skis just blew off my feet from the impact, i ragdolled for 30ft and lost everything, poles, gloves, helmet, goggles, everything. amazingly no concussion, only hardcore skiers thumb. but they asked me all the standard questions: name,location,date,president, but one that i thought was good was i had to remember 3 words: taco, mountain, panda (yea i still remember them haha) and i had to say em back 20 min later.

haha no way! they told me to remember those exact words when i got my concussion. taco, mountain, panda in that order too. I was skiing at Breck.

my friend got concussed at a comp last year and forgot everyones names. so we started asking him if he knew random people hed never seen before and insisted he knew them.

ive got one, but it was me who was concussed so im not sure if its 100 percent accurate.its just what i heard from others... So i was cruzin switch, really fast, caught and edge, ect... (first of i'll say that i am 16 and am a sophmore in highschool) so i wake up and start freakin out. I had absolutely no idea where i was, but  i recognized this kid i was with, who is a senior at my school. He asked me what my name was, and i got that question right. but then when he asked me how old i was my reply was, "Well, I know im a freshman" (wrong). The next thing I said was, "Jay, my head really hurts and i've got no idea what happened!" He procedes to tell me that he didnt see me fall, but he saw me slide to a stop, but his best guess was that i caught an edge going switch. The next thing i said was "WHAT?, i caught an edge, thats so lame...are you sure i didnt do it on the big jump?" (more background: our park is split into two different parts, the top and the bottom, separated by a steep face. The jumps are on the bottom half) So Jay goes, "nope buddy, we are on the top part". I reply with "shit, thats embarrasing" and then we had the same conversation 4 times before patrol got there...later on in the day I was at the hospital with the same Jay kid and my mom. I come out of a catscan, and jay hands me the phone to talk to our other friend josh. Josh asked me how i was feeling and my reply was "im really tired, and i think i might be heading into get a catscan". He laughed, and while being confused i asked him why that was funny and he informed my that i just got a catscan about 2 minutes ago. And now I dont remember any of the weekend at all.

This happened yesterday:

At our hill we have three jumps, and the top is mid sized but not that big.  I took a picture of my friend hitting it, and we were sitting down hill  getting ready for me to take his pic on the second way smaller jump.  This skier comes flying off above us, grabbed three.  He was a dece skier for our hill and had landed these earlier.

This time he landed backseat a little crooked and smacked back, hitting his head.  His skis were still on, downhill, and he was laying horizontal to the hill.  He had on a helmet.  The lift goes right past us and everyone was yelling to us, because we were the only ones there and about 20 feet downhill.  I yelled to him a few times, no reply, so I kicked off my skis and ran up the hill.

By this time it had been nearly a minute and he hadn't moved, so I send my friend down to call for patrol or whatever.  I walk up just as he wakes up and he starts licking his lips.  I don't know why but sometimes people do that when they get knocked out.

He's all mumbling and groaning and I'm just staring at him.  He starts to get up, and I tell him to sit still, but he tries to stand up, and falls downhill into me.  I push him back down on the hill, not hard, and he lays there still mumbling.  Then he squats down on his skis and skis across the hill about 10 feet, dragging his hands all odd, and out of the landing. 

He lays there for a few more minutes, and I'm just talking to him, and he's just mumbling.  Then he says he is okay and his head hurts, and gets up and skis down the hill.  I just went down and got on the lift, while all the patrollers show up below us. 

At the top he is chillin off to the side, so I go to talk to him. I told him about second impact syndrome and what had just happened but he was all loopy still and just nodded.  He said he was going to go in, but then he follows us back to the park.  The patroller asks us who it was and we point him out.  He says he is okay and they just shrug and leave. 

He hits the jump again and the rails.  We just shrugged, let him do what he wants.

later in the day we saw him on another run and he just fell over, and then got up and kept skiing.

If this dude is on here, I hope you are okay.  I wasn't going to force him to get checked out by the patrol but he was out over a minute = bad news if he hits his head again.

hes not gonna think rationally. he has a severe concussion. thats when you step in as a skier and say no bro, you need to get some help. second impact is not something you want to just let happen to someone.

haha in high school i was playing soccer in a game and got headed directly in the temple going up for a header. It ended up i only had a minor concussion, but the qeustions were funny. The kid Ben who we talk about was a kid on the team who was straight but we always joked around that he was gay (real mature i know)

friend: Ted, what day is it?
me: ummm tuesday? no! Thursday! Actually i really dont know

friend: Who's winning the game?
me: uhhh i can't remember

friend: What is ben's sexuality?
me: questionable!


haha figured the one thing i remember is that joke

my brother told ski patrol he was born in 1889 when he crashed real hard training moguls... they strapped him to a backboard and took him in. He was out within an hour and skiing. Turns out he was just an idiot (he wsa born in 1989)

when my buddy knocked his head around i had to explain to him at least 6 times that he took a header doing a 3. i didnt see the fall really so i wasnt sure at the time if he was screwing with me or not.

oh, and ps, dont joke with ski patrol. as they were testing him i cracked a joke about him being way too drunk to snowboard. they didnt apreciate my humor.

after a soccer game in high school i asked a friend if he saw horseshoes flying in the sky..my other concussions i wasn't ever out of it, just in pain.

my buddy got a knee to the head during gym and he went to the nurse, i left 20 minutes later just to find him walking in a 10 foot radius circle

he was outta school for a week with a terrible concussion

i got a concussion in cheerleading and fucked up my shoulder.
i fell from 3 girls high right onto my head on the track at practice.
woke up with my squad around me and i was talking about
how i could fly. i guess its not that great of a story but...

my freind got side swipped by a car as we where skating downtown .he did a nose manual across the street without looking and the car hit his hip and he flipped over the car nailing the windsheild and flipping on to the pavement. he didnt get knocked out but sure was concuseed.

me: u nose manuaed in front of it
denn: dude fuck skateboarding im getting a scotter

me : so u no where we were heading

After he skied away I asked him a few times on the lift, and at the top a twice more how he felt and that.

He was twice my size so I couldn't hold him down, and I got the ski patrol and told them everything that I just typed on here.  It was there job to take care of it, but they did not.  There wasn't much I could do besides encourage the patrollers to check him out, and they didn't seem to care.  I don't know about out west, but here they are all volunteer, and wont necessarily go out of their way to help people who don't want it.

I'm not trying to attack you, I'm just saying that I felt I did all I could. You may have done more, but I didn't know what else to do.  I'm a kid, not a doctor.  There also were plenty of adults around the hill, and on the lift that saw it happen, and none of them stepped in either.

Nah, I wish I was at Big Sky.  I was at Indianhead in UP Michigan..

last year i got a concussion doing a backflip, under rotated and caught my tips, but anyways i apparently told my friends i was fine and just going into the lodge to warm up, so i went into the bathroom in the lodge, and called my girlfriend and told her i was hiding in the bathroom and i didnt know what happened (i was on a ski instructor and i was supposed to be working but i didnt sign in) but i guess i asked her if we had sex like 50 times and then she called my mom who picked me up, i only remember like 20 second fragments of the whole night.
the doctor prescribed me a lottttt of painkillers though haha

my only concussion was very minor but so stupid
my friend was bigger than me and decided he would pick me up and put me over his shoulder in the gym locker room, he proceeded to hurt his shoulder and drop me headfirst onto the tile floor...
all i remember was sitting down and watching the room spin like mad

this kid at my school got a mild concussion playing football and didn't realize it, then got hit again like ten minutes later. he ended up have a seizure and got fucked up. he didn't go to school for 3 months, and then after it has been over a year, still only comes to school for half a day. he almost died apparently.

my best friend gave him the second concussion, he still feels REALLY shitty about it. and the kids dad forced him to play football, who also now feels REALLY shitty about it.

i was longboarding and hit a crack and nailed my head durning lunch at school last year.  I just got up and kept road straight to the school, went inside and started working.  When my teacher came, i was bleeding all over my stuff. Apparently i phone my mom like 5 times and just said "hi mom, im ok".  I dont remember about a week before that and my first memory after was lying on a bed at the hospital, wondering why they were putting stapes in my head.

only time i got concussed was at windells i was doing backflips into the foam pit (on blades) and went for a dub backie and i guess i took off to early and hit my head on the coping. i had a helmet on but still was out instantly for like 15 minutes i guess.  I woke up on a table with no idea what happened, i guess it took like 3 guys to drag me out of the foam pit.  It sucked cuz it was only like day 4 at camp and i had to take the rest of the camp easy, not trying new stuff.

i overshot a kicker (something like 40-50 ft table) and woke up like 2 minutes afterwards. one friend just went down to the mountain rescue station. the other helped me get my stuff and get me out of the landing. he asked me kinda standard stuff (name, year at school, in which year he was at that time).

it wasnt something serious since i remember all of this, but i know 100% that i only guessed when he asked me in which year i was and when he asked the same for his status (it was like 1st-5th year possible for both) and i got both right...

like two seconds afterwards, i see a ski-doo at full speed ride past the "crash site" uphill. i mean, if it had been something serious, this guy would have spent another 10 important minutes cruising around on the hill (with only 3 kickers being in this area, and i crashed on the one at the bottom, whose landing you can see pretty much the whole time when youre coming uphill)

I got a major concussion last year, was going like 90kmph, ended up in the air and in a fence in a skiercross race. Didn't know I was concussed did the second run and skied home. I fell over in the shower that night and couldn't remember the day. I had conversations and was fine.

In coherence doesn't always show concussion, or lack of memory. Ask them their phone number is a good one. More of a test is get them to put their arms out to the sound and touch their nose with one finger, they often can't do it with concussion.

The only story I have kinda related is when I passed out and cut open my whole eyebrow. The EMTs saw my hookah and were like "Have you been smoking marijuana" and I said "WHaaaaaaat" and they came back with "That bong over there is that yours"
And me and my room mates just looked at them and said "Thats a hookah"

has anyone ever gotten a concussion while drinking?

I got one a month ago, well a contusion i guess b/c i wasn't knocked out and had been drinking a little bit (i know don't drink and ski, especially park without a helmet, i'm a fucking idiot), but it was spooky i felt dizzy and nervous all week and still don't feel totally 100%, kinda sketchy

how long did it take before you guys felt 100% awesome after your concussions?
