Prevent skis from becoming rusty! How?

I got a problem, I bought some new skis. Tried them one time, and one week after the first time I tried it I was going to use them, and then I saw some rust on the skis sidecut. How can I prevent this from happening? Everytime when I'm done with the skis I take away all the snow (as much as possible) and then I put them inside.
How can I get the rust away?

metal gets rusty when water sits on it for a long time... so, you must not have gotten all the snow off of your skis

personally, when i'm done with my skis, i take 30 seconds to grab a rag and wipe them off fully

yea u get rust too,i occasionaly wipe em down but the rust usually comes off the next time i ski

you should dedicate a small rag just for your skis, i used to wipe mine down dry every time, but since i just leave them in the car now, i don't worry about it.

for summer storage, wax them but make sure you have some over drip onto the edges, and obviously don't scrape till next winter, this will stop the humidity from getting to them,

It's inevitable. Iron + water + warmth = rust. The most you can do is wipe down your edges after you ski, or just get them tuned every once in a while. It's no big deal.

use a gummy stone to knock the rust off.
or like steel wool (gently)

If you uses sand paper, won't the sidecuts loose it's sharpness?

seriously, it's just surface rust from the metal oxidizing - it comes off when you ski, or you could use a gummy stone to remove it - $5 from a store.

take a candle and rub it on your edges before you go skiing

what does the trick is whenever your not skiing for a while, or your going on a trip with skis on an outside car rack, take vasaline or even chapstick and coat your edges.  They cant oxidize (rust) if they arent exposed to oxygen.  Works everytime

You've confused edges with sidecut.  You're edges are the metal edge that you tune, dull, etc.  Sidecut is a term that refers to the shape of a ski.  A deep sidecut means that a ski is superduper hourglass shaped.  Sidecut affects turning radius.  For example, carving skis tend to have a lot of sidecut where as big pow skis usually have very little sidecut, or even variable or reverse sidecut (ARG).

  Undoubtedly someone will pick this statement apart and refute some stupid detail.  Just trying to help you out.  Also, don't worry about the rust.  If you're caring for them like you say you are, there's nothing to worry about.

Yes, I meant of course the edge. But I can see that the people here understood what I meant. I'm Norwegian, and my ski vocabulary isn't that good. Sorry about that, and thanks for the help ;)

Make sure you are drying your edges before storage. Make sure you are storing them in a dry place! Cement floors such as garage floors retain water (even if you can't see it) so never have your skis touching cement for storage. I store my skis under my bed (dry and doesn't take up space.

sorry, the small amount of rust your edges get from sitting in your house won't have any significant effect on the skis durability or performance. If you really want to prevent your edges from rusting, wipe them down with a rag and store them in a warm, dry place.

The rust will come off as soon as you ski. It does not hurt your skis at all.
