1080 skis..why the hate?

I dont understand why everyone hates 1080s.. i personally ride them, they ski amazingly well and are one of the best skis ever. I think most of you kids decided it was cool to go along with a select few and hate on em. If its about supporting salomon, fuck then, say that. But i know all you kids cant really hate the skis. I think most of you needa form your own opinions on shit instead of going along with what other people say..

i have heard not of this '1080 hatred' you speak of. i know people look down on them though, as kind of a 'fad' in skiing, that everyone goes on with. but yea its a kick ass ski, its soo wide at the tip waist and tail, its a perfect all mountain ski, cuts through any kind of snow. i ride it, and it rips my mountain to pieces... and they DID pioneer the way for every other twin tip made......................

Never heard of anyone hating the 1080's. They ski really good and are sick to use in the park. The only downer for me is I think the grapgics could be changed a little these days

yeah I don't much like salomon, but the big thing is the skis have foam core and lose the rigidity after a couple months. they become noodles. I just dont think they stand up as well as other skis. not exactly hate, but I just won't ever buy salomon skis again unless they completely change.






I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day

i think the reason people hate them is because salomon is one of those brands that is not all about freeskiing and it is more about all around skiing and is not like line or 4frnt or one of those just freeskiing brands.

ya i always hear people hating on 1080s. i have them, they ride pretty well. the plastic tip caps or watever aren't the greatest... mine fell off and now it's delamming a big.. tried to apoxy it back on, didn't work. lost it completely. they are slowly falling apart, but so does everything. i like them.

i like them but salamon needs to make more twin tips and change there designs, look at like k2 they change the graphic every year and have skis for different types of skiing, same with line etc

They are too flexy to hold an edge on ice, and they cant ski cut up or lots of crud without bouncing all over the place.

what I like about Salomon is that since they make race skis, and have been in the business for so long; that they know how to make a ski as opposed to an image. I have Pocket Rockets (I believe they have a wood and foam core), and they hold an edge like a GS ski through anything you throw at them. I have a pair of used Line 153's for park/urban, and I love them for what they do, but they don't have enough sidecut to carve at all on short turns.

i have the old 1080s, and im not a fan of the foam core. they are real chattery, just dont like how they ride. also i packed down the foam core underneath my binding, which isnt good

on a side note salomon has the sickest warranty of any company i have ever delt with for anything. im on my 3rd pair and 1 pair i just kinda chipped up and another pair i cracked an edge on a rail AFTER the warranty was up and got a new pair (i guess that was more of the shop covering it). but still the warranty is sick but they are a wet noodle. nice and light though. and the spaceframes are wayyy ahead of the old style

I own and ride the Cusson pros all over the mountain, cliffs, park/rails, pow. They handle everything allright. That's the key. They aren't good at anything and they don't suck at anything. The tails are too god damned soft. Landing big hits just washes them out. The foam is also all flexed out giving them no pop, and causing difficulty in sketch conditions.

My biggest problem with the Tens, new or old is that there must be something wrong with them if they have to give their pro riders different skis to ride on. Also, I think there are robot pictures on the topsheets or something. My skis are purple in the light. What the hell is that?

i hate 1080s and i hate solaman. they are both stagnent. nothing has changed in 3 yrs while other companies are constantly improving there skis and listening to rider input.

i ride lines but i personally still like 1080's i think alot of people don't care of them cause they are a thing of the past... salomom needs a new generation of twin tips... but that guy that said that they were the foundation of all twins that's bullshit haha... line started up before 1080's But ya 1080's are still nice who gives shit what other people think as long as you like them

It has been posted in here before, but I will add to it.
Alot of the complaint stems from the fact that though Saloman was originally on the forefront driving the twin tip revoulution (but NO they were NOT the first), they have since sat on their laurels and fleeced the buying public with second rate poorly thought out and constructed skis. Cap construction foam core skis are CHEAP, they cost the manufacturer peanuts because they do NOT have to be pressed. There is very little material in them, a poly based foam that is injection molded into a shape, (high initial cost for molds, extremely low production cost per yeild) which in itself has NO natural strength, though it is very light, so in order to make the skis have any strength at all they must cap the ski with a fiber composite and resin. This is all great except for a couple of key points. First is that since the resin/fiber is the only point of strength, it takes only a short amount of time to break this structure down on a molecular level with the forces that skiing can apply, so in only a FEW (ten or so) days of aggressive skiing the torsional and longitudnal rigidity is lost. Second is that since the core is only a uniform peice of poly foam, it cannot provide ANY support to the steel edge. In a sandwich construction ski the edge can be pressed in between layers of the sandwich providing a very strong connection, this is not the case in a foam ski, and since park skis are used on rails, the lack of support leads to rapid edge failures (cracking) and immediatly after the broken rail will dislodge from the ski, as the only thing holding it is the net total of the edge, a broken element does not have enought support to stay with the ski.

So since someone just shelled out a wack of cash on a ski that they see Candide boosting on and doing rails on, and then use the ski for the same purpose and the ski falls apart.. the consumer feels violated.

i skied the 1080s, scratches, and my v-expressions this weekend. 1080s are the worst park ski out of the 3 in my opinion. good all around ski, yes, but miles behind the scratch, and about as good as my expressions in the park.
they just didnt feel right...

Shootr's got it down.

I used to race Solomon's and the race-stock skis were light years beyond the store-bought ones. Not even on the same playing field.

It's all about dollars to the big companies. Head used to have the best race skis in the world until they quit making them in a sandwich construction and went to the molded fiberglass BS that pretty much ended that reign of power. In one summer they went from offering the best skis to offering the worst, but they were cheap to make!

i like them. my brother has the dorion model 1080, and they are really nice. I dont konw though, sometimes i get turned off... for instance, on saturday at jack frost, pa, i saw a kid with 1080's in the park, but he had no poles. Now, obviously that should only make me not like the rider, not the skis, but the whole 'package' of that situation turned me off a little.

hucksterjibber has it all wrong, K2's warranty is the best I have found yet. I was skiing new skis for 5 yrs straight off of them, and all I had to pay was $50 shipping each time. Started with Stuntman (snapped), Red Morrison Pro Model (bent), ModX (ripped binf\ding out of), ModX (snapped), ModX (snapped) and I still got a hell of a discount off from them when I ordered my AK Enemy. Rossi blacklisted me after 3 yrs, Salomon just laughed at me, but then again I did trash the skis. K2 has the best warranty I've found yet, except for maybe 4Frnt.

k2 may not have the best warranty out there, but Solomon is queer and its as much what the ski represents as what it skis like. What does the 1080 stand for? Corporate sluts and suits milking every penny they can from us. k2 may be a big company, but at least some thought has gone into the skis, and Line, well no comment there.

ive got the 1080 171's and i love them. except today the decide to completely delam. so im a little pissed cuz ive only had the a month and a half. salomons being good about it though. there sending me a new pair.

A lot of people hate 1080s because all the little rich kids buy them and ski on them once a year. These are the kids who cut you off in the park. Don't talk about why 1080s suck if you haven't skied on them.Most people that do use them, like them.

umm lets see ive ridden 1080s for the past 3 seasons and well there good, not great but good. my first pair...the blue ones were a great all around ski. the space frames i picked up last season(the first day on em) i thought they were the best thing i could ever ride. well 2 yrs later there still a kick ass park and pow ski but if riding anywehre else then the park im taken my other skis out casue after rails those fuckers dont turn but i guess its not the skis fault. and they havent turned into noodles yet but last yr they did delam and they prolly will again,(in that case i will warrentee those bitches) but fer now there a sweet ski with good graphics. no too much to complain about. sry i just wrote my life story

i think its funny how people bash the ski without ever having ridden it
its even funnier to hear people bash it just because they dont like salomon as a company or because so many people are riding it

the company might not give freeskiing the attention it deserves, but the fact is that my 1080 are holding up fine, and i like them a lot more than the scratches (i was debating between the two)
u also shouldnt just instantly make fun of something because everybody is doing it
everybody wears pants, but that doesnt makes pants uncool
instead of bitching about how the lil 8 year old next to u has the same skis, go out on the park and show everybody what the skis are really meant for
