my computer is being weird and i need some help. there is no sound coming out when i play videos. it works fine when the computer shuts down and makes the noises but thats it. i cant hear any music or videos or anything. ideas?

have you tried the volume control on the actuall video itself?

Obviously you have checked all the sound settings

Try a different video player e. g VLC player
Try getting new codecs for the video player
Try playing a different video
Try updating or rolling back your soundcard drivers (although that wouldn't explain why your other sounds are playing, and I assume mp3's play fine too?)

first reinstall your audio drivers then if still no sound download a codec pack, google either cccp (combined community codec pack, most comprehensive imho), klite, ffdshow or find your own. if you can play audio files but no sound for video this is most likely your problem, what is the file extension for of the videos you are playing?

you have to pin point the problem. i suggest unistalling the sound drivers and reinstalling them.

i had this problem, my computer was basically stuck on mute. after months of screwing around with it, even sent it in to dell, google was the answer. turns out i had to delete one letter in the registry and it all went back to normal

are you using a laptop with internal speakers? if you are make sure that setting is turned on, this same thing happened to me before
