I got a job...working at an ISP. Making your internets work and shit.

I ski a pair of 168cm skis downhill and those are a little big for my size (given a size chart). I've rode 175cm skis before. I am looking to ski longer skis in the future....

But was wondering if a 5'7 150lb skier would go shorter or longer? For instance 175 instead of 165, or 171 instead of 166.

I suggest the whole getting a job thing. I can even afford to go out west...multiple times a year :)

is there is different between "downhill" and "park" skis?
my entire hill is a park
second of all.
longer is better.
someone your size would be perfect on 175s

My downhill ski is not a twin, it is not center mounted, and they have some heavy ass bindings.

I am getting a freestyle setup, Il Moro's, some freeride bindings, and a local shop is trying to get me in to the Elan Partisan.

No one talks about the ski though so I can't get shit for information on it.

I am looking at the Armada Pipe Cleaner, and the ARV...and JJ...and the ANT. I just want too many skis.

I basically want an all mountain powder machine that I can go in to the park with.

I can't find any place to let me demo these skis though. So I am stuck with the internet here.....

I know about one ski that fits your description: K2 Kung Fujas ;) It is a really good ski. I haven't tried any other pow park ski though, so I can't recommend other then the Kung Fujas. It is a really good ski though. Worth the money!

i have chronics, 176, i'm 178 tall. if that helps. and its money. but if my boots were also money, it wouldnt hurt my feet to butter my skis. possibly going for skis in the 180 length as next ski.

But....if you have downhill skis, or have a preference in your downhill or park ski. Do you prefer your park ski to be longer or shorter.

Aka I ride a 168 now (feel I could go bigger no problem), would most of you go with a smaller ski, or bigger?

If you had the choice

Or is this way over analyzing the shit?

if 175cm is perfect for a guy who is 5'7" that would mean that a 6'3" dude would be on skis over 200cm.

I know that racing/all mountain (usually not twintip) skis are going to be long. SL skis are about the size of the skier, GS and DH just get bigger an bigger, DH skis are really long. also, for the big burly all mountain skis, they are usually over you head. Shorter skis are more agile. Racer/big mountain skiers don't need agility as much as they need stability. in DH skiing, when your going 70+mph down a hill, you don't care about how easy it is to turn, you care about staying on those skis so you need some godo stability.

as for park, i think thats just preference though. shorter, lighter skis would be easy to spin, and easy to jump with. but then again, a longer ski will be more stable with big landings off jumps and for grabs and what not.


its all preference, you need to actually ski it

Urban: 2002/2003 (O.G.)  160 Armada AR5 - quick and agile, no need for stability here, just quick and easy moving
Booter: 2007/2008 181 Salomon Dumont - lots of ski to land those big jumps with stability
Pow: 2007/2008 179 K2 Hellbent - also for the stability and a little bit of agility (trees).

If you must know on the circuit they use 190's for GS, 205-210's for Super G and 215's for DH. As for park, I've had 163 Tweaks for years I started out liking them for the very reason that you thought. I now hate them and wish that I had 178-180's.

My problem here lies in the fact that I cannot demo crap around here.

You can find places selling things you want, for prices you won't pay. But they won't even let you demo skis. I think its just because they know people demo them in-store and buy them online though haha....

But yeah I am on 168cm downhill skis now and I have been on 175cm skis downhill on my last set of sticks.

Getting some twins now and with my inability to test out anything in the park besides my downhill skis I am left to wonder what size people ski downhill vs. park.

just find some 2 by 4s at the dump, duck tape some straps on them and keep the length around 210cm and SKI 'EM.

i just bought some 171 chronics to replace some old as shit k2 enemys (183 i think)

the 183s felt long for me groomers with a more traditional mount, but the 171 feels short mounted closer to center.  without having owned lots of different skis to know the difference i have deduced the following:  a ski mounted closer to center will ski shorter  than a traditional mount of the same size, or, in the future i would buy a bigger park ski than i would use all mountain.

I'm 5'11, 195 or so, and ride 181...which I think is pretty long.  I just like the feel, its more balanced.

i ride everything at least a step up from where I should be...

i weigh like 140, but I rock 180's and 185's with no problem..
