I just bought 18 tinas burritos, 2 bunches of bananas and a 24 pack of top ramen for like 15 bucks.. should last me about 2 weeks if I starve myself a little.



anyone else out there know of any cheap food that is mmm mmm good?

you can do a lot of stuff with rice, frozen corn, frozen peas, frozen mixed veggies, potatoes, onions, etc...you can make an asian stir fry kinda thing (just get some bell peppers and broccoli), or go mexican style (buy some canned black beans, super cheap). you can make fried rice. umm, get some curry powder or premade sauce and you can have vegetable curry.

usually if we are going for cheap, packs of ramen.

if you want a good deal for a solid meal though, get a loaf of white bread some sliced cheese and some butter, grilled cheese mah fucka. maybe a few cans of tomato soup.

pasta is pretty cheap too, just get a jar or two of some sauce with it.

i really wish i had a trader joes closer to me...

their veggies are SO cheap and delicious and organic and junk...

sometimes i go there and just splurge on a cartfull of them.

oh i forgot

do you live in a big (ish) city? if you do, check this out...hindu temples, once a week, have free lunch. it's a community service thing (part of their faith). anyone can come, and if you find multiple temples in your area, bam, a few free meals every week. awesome delicious indian food too.

This is what i do but it takes some dedication
masturbate into a cup a few times a day but make sure u keep it in the fridge or it will spoil.
USe it as a pasta sauce cus its creamy and high in protein.

6-pack top ramen is only $0.70 at my store
loaf of wheat bread - $0.99
get some cheap cheese, take butter packets from lodges up on the mtn.

^ grilled cheese and soup.

Also, my grocery store has these GIANT sandwiches, labeled "party subs"
they are stacked with 3 kinds of meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, on good bread
they weight almost 3lbs
and are only $5.99
you are full for 2 days with one of those.

OR get a job that has free meals, like mine.  I tune skis in a rental/retail shop that's in the Marriott, and the Marriott has an employee cafeteria with free meals all day.  You're only supposed to have one, but the cooks are chill.  Different food everytime.  Also I go up and snag a breakfast burrito that they make for the guests.  Very good.

oh god would i take bargain grocery shopping over the bullshit they feed us in the cafeteria.  freshman 15 my ass, i think i've lost weight.

during my broke year off, i got most of my calories from stag chili and home made sandwiches consisting of just meat and cheese.  milk's a good one too if you've got a big grocery store nearby like a safeway.  $1.70 gallons of whole milk here in denver, that's 2400 calories.  no such luck in a ski town though.

you can get a 10 pound bag of potatoes for like 3 bucks, good carbs and starch, and will give you energy

eggs are cheap and give you protein

rice as everyone is saying

pasta and maybe some butter instead of sauce is real cheap

i buy the yard o beef thing (usualy 5$). its just a big tube of summer sausage and put it in my ramen and everything else. i just made some ramen with the sausage bbq sause and tabasco and its really good. but walmart has these plastic trays with ramen and flavoring that are like 88 cents. and they are actually reallly good. also subway 5$ footlongs are a good break from ramen and so are little ceasers hot and readys

Here's your five basic food groups when you're broke, in order of cheapness:

1. Rice
2. Potatoes
3. Sammiches
4. Pasta
5. Eggs

You can sustain yourself off of bulk rice for a long time. Same with potatoes. Sammiches require you to purchase some PB & J, but you can usually find Freihofer's bread at Buy 1 Get 1 prices so it works out pretty cheap. Plus you can use that bread for your eggs. Pasta is cheap as fuck too, just get the big boxes of generic Price Chopper brand and some cheap jar sauce and you're good to go. You can eat decently for under $45 a week with this method.

my friend and I were stoned as fuck and both of us only had a dollar we scraped together in change. Go to a 711 and get a bag of fritos , hit that shit with the free chilli and cheese. I mean its probably not somehting you want to have more than once but when you only have a dollar its pretty bomb

ok this is some cheap ass shit, but it only works if you dont do it frequently cause if you do it frequently the gravy train stops. so basically this should be combo'd up with the other cheap food ideas here. (the legality of these methods are questionable, or downright illegal so i'm not advocating you do this, its just a sharing of hypothetical ideas.)

1. flat out steal shit. it helps if you buy things at the same time.

2. call food companies like frito lay, and pepsi (i know this isnt real food) and tell them the product you purchased was somehow bad (weird taste, hair, strange color). the thing is you'll need the product code from the actual product so either write it down in the store, or actually buy the stuff. after you complain they should try to keep you as a customer by sending you coupons/ vouchers which you use to buy more stuff at the store. these coupons or vouchers will [usually] give you more food than you actually "bought" at no cost to you.

theres alot more, but [cliche excuse] im pretty lazy right now [/cliche excuse]

cheap fast food: taco bell, 1 of each nachos on the value menu, and if the taco bell has self serve drinks (and most do) ask for a cup of water which is free then you put whatever ish you want in there at the drink station. total meal > $3

cheap healthy(ish) food: brown rice, mrs dash, shredded cheese. nuke it in the microwave. so the cheese melts over the rice. so filling.

remembered a new one today, at costco its $1.50 for a jumbo hot dog with anything you want on it and a 20 oz soda with unlimited refills.

Alright, my family isnt poor or anything, infact we're fairly wealthy, but we definitely dont like wasting money and try to save money as much as possible (we are jews, but there is nothing wrong with saving money, so no asshole comments). here is our tricks (im 16, but i do take after my dad alot, who tought us all this)

-save those cups from costco and refill them for another time (your post reminded me of this)
-Free Russian dressing, ketchup and mayo mixed. very easy to get
-take sweet and low/sugar packets
-fixens bar at some fast food places/rest stops. They usually consist of lettuc, tomatos, onions, katchup, mayo, ect. Make yourself a salad with your free russian dressing and free lettuc/tomato/onion
-left overs left overs left overs

there are some things that i don't really like to do, but hey...
-the water cup at mcdonalds, thats kind of sinking low... also, i have taken a soda when going around the super market with my parents and finished it before checking out. my dad would throw it behind some items on a shelf.

there are a couple more. when fruits come into season, you can get them fairly cheap and they are always good for you.
