Fuck them.  Lets get our own shit on track.  We have people in our own country starving and being murdered.  We dont need to spend money on a country and a people that are of no worth to us.  We will not gain anything from getting involved, except a larger deficit.

Nothing is fucking happening in Africa. We donate all this money, save all these kids from starvation, and what do they do? They fuck it all up. Every single time. We either need to invade and set shit straight by force, or cut funding. Too much money has gone into Africa.

In the 60's and 70's we saved millions from starvation.  Lets say those people that were saved each spawned 5 kids.  Now 40 years later there are many millions more starving, and food production hasn't risen much.  Just let them go.

Its natural selection really.  We should instate a darwinistic foreign policy.  Lets let all these asshole kill each other, then eventually we wont have to deal with them.  Seems like the most cost effective plan.

you don't think almost half a millenia of colonization/slavery in   Africa might have had an impact on how things are today? Our position of supremacy and power came from our raping/pillaging the African continent.

This is true.  I am not ignoring that.  However, it was not just us, europe played a huge role in the destruction of africa.  But we need to take care of business on the home front first, then we will be more fiscally available to help them.

you all should really take a modern history class on Africa.  Africa is themost diverse place on the planet.  hundreds of different languages.  Each country has its own history, the congo is a special case.  It was occupied by Leopold and the Belgiums back in the 1800's, and has many problems such as the one the article faces.  Dont assume every country in Africa is the same because they aren't

I agree that right now, the US is probably not the best country to help, but somone has to chnage  this and prevent innocent women and girls from getting rapped---yes, it's an attrocity, and yes, africa has gotten a lot of help in the past, but that's because they need it the most---there needs to be a joint effort to help stop thisby all the countries that can help...

just for starters, you should know that a large part of why africa is so fucked up is because of the colonialism they were raped with for so long

its fucked up but we can't go and help every single country in the world that is fucked up like that. and unfortunately we have to help out the ones where we will see benefit for our own country and right now that is iraq because of the oil connections we would have possibly gained and because bush didn't like how sadaam tried to kill his dad so he wanted revenge (original plan). there is no real benefit our country can get from helping out africa right now so it doesnt make sense to waste our time putting in our troops to help them out which really sucks but its the way it is.

I didnt mean to sound so cold-hearted.  For that, i apologize.  It was more a generalization on that fact that when something goes wrong in the world, we are expected to fix it.  This comes with being the most affluent country in the world and thats to be expected.  We are no longer in this position; we no longer have money to throw away.  Yes the article is sickening.  I dont condone any of this crap, but its out of our hands at this point.  We cant truly stop this.  Tossing billions of dollars into it would be a waste.  The real solution would be military intervention, but that would only be another war we cant win.
