Salomon suspects or Atomic punx?

Hey friends, just considering picking up a pair of new skis from BC.com's sale, and was looking for some advice.

I am 5'11, 155. Park 95% groomers 5%.

Im looking at either 182 punx or 176 suspects.

Which do you guys think would be more suited for me?

Yea the punx would be great for you. I heard that they are quite reliable. If you want a soft rail specific ski, check out the urban punx. If you want to do more jumps, get the punx.

punx for sure.. ive skied both and suspects felt so sketchy i ski the urban punx which is what i have and i love them... i love atomic after riding this ski...

punx are super fun and can take a beating.  the 182 is nice, i love a longer ski in the park.  atomic is also a great company to deal with.

never skied on suspects, but i hear theyre a lot of fun...until they break a week and a half after you buy them and salomon wont warranty them because youre bases show signs of rail sliding.

Just to give you a little bit of info, atleast on the Suspect side where I am more known than on the Atomic Punx side. The thing with Suspects is that the ski actually scored about 9.5/10 in tests. You can say that the ski is flawless just due to that, but the thing is that the ski is totally miserable unless you're afraid of rails. What I mean by that is that regardless on how good suspect did in the tests, the ski breaks down after 20 days or so. The suspects are sick when it comes to sability on jumps, but the staircase sidewall construction and the "Edge Armor" Technology failed bigtime. 80% of the complaints Salomon got regarding the skis were due to Steel Edges failing, breaking. The Atomic Punx is a great ski, but not really tested to its limits as much as the Salomon Suspects.

I hope that gives you a better idea on what to pick. (Have you ever considered what I am currently using, which is the best thing ever invented so far in my opinion? The Line Anthem. I've got the LDT Limited Edition Octoland version and it works like a dream with the wide 93 waist and the 119 tip'n'tail. This also provides a sick stability on rails and more important, on jumps. 100% Symetrical, good for switch and butter-zones Technology.)

my friend rides the punx and he says their awesome so yeah go for them

read alot of bad stuff about the suspects..they look cool though

I havent heard anything good about the suspects all year. however, my friend got the punx this year and says he says they're the best ski he's ever skied. punx definitely.

This is just a clarification to some people that think that Salomon doesn't have a warranty program.

Yes we do have an excellent warranty program indeed and our skis  don't break any more than any other brands. The real news is that to be competitive now a days all Ski companies have to make a great product. If you are out to break the skis that you buy than regardless of the brand you will in the end suceed on any product.

If you have problems with your Salomon  skis that you buy than you can take them back to the store that you bought  them from and if it is a legit factory defect than yes like we always have will process your claim as we do for everybody.

You are very wrong. maybe the skis don't break but the edges crack very quickly and then subsequently rip out.

No because you claim sliding rails voids your warranty completely. You also say you can tell when we slide rails by the marks in the wax on our bases.

My Suspects fell apart and broke in under a season...like fell apart bad. My edges were blowing out and missing on both skis, both sides, pressure cracks in noses and a lot of chips in the top sheets. Given I ride them hard in the park but when something like this happened just doing a front flip which I landed slightly tail heavy and rode away from I a little sad that I threw $500 away since warranty was a big no go...

I've never had a pair of skis break in half on me...I'm sure the problem could have been my own though but irregardless the ski was falling apart before it snapped.

There's no need to go bad mouthing Salomon here..... for market forces speak a lot louder then words. When their freestyle sales take a noticeable dip next year they will get the message. Unless of course they just write it off as the recession...

Go with Punx.

I don't like how Salomon is dealing with their huge "edge armor" mistake.

You probably didn't see the huge thread that got Deleted about how they won't warrenty their fucking skis they CLAIM are for park/pipe.

Just stay away from Salomon altogether IMO.

I don't think they are bad mouthing salomon.  They are just sharing their experiences of their product/warranty process.  They are trying to inform the op so he doesn't go through what they have.  If not for people doing this, that drop you talked about would never happen.  Clearly something is wrong when so many people have had the same experiences.

It's also like pouring salt on the wound when someone comes and basically tells them it was their own doing like they were on a mission to destroy their skis.  They supported salomon, they just wanted salomon to support them back.

Sometimes the only way to be heard, is to yell.

Telling people that they meant to go out and destroy their skis is just crazy. I've never heard of ANYONE trying to do that.
