Backyard rails

Does anybody know of any places or sites were u can buy just like basic 15 foot flat rails to ski. Ive built a few but there not that good and I dont have crap for materials.

nope you could always just use pvc pipe though but ur probs lookin for something metal.

It's not too hard to build a sweet rail for 250 - 400 bucks. Thats gotta be cheaper than anything you can buy pre made. This cost about 120 - 150 in 2x4s and we got the quarter inch HDPE for free, but its like... 175 for a 4x8 feet sheet, so thats enough for a few rails.

This thing is a beast, it slides super easy, is wide enough to learn anything on and was almost more fun to build than hit.

Just go for it. For a Handrail PVC will work, but mine cracked pretty fast at 20 below whereas the HDPE has held up for countless hits at -30 F with no issues at all.

By the way, dimensions on that thing. 16 feet long, 16 inches wide, and about 2 feet tall. I would go for a 12 foot long by 12 inch box, that would be a bit more practical if you ever want to move it around.

mmm I had 1/4" HDPE on my original rail, cut to to four inches wide, it was sick..Unfortunately, it dented real easily, like it was surprisingly soft. Also, it started to beau (?) like where it starts curving up and down like a sine wave or something. Maybe yours is held down better, hope yours works better than mine!

Oh, on something that thin I would put some angle iron to protect the sides. And we used a bit to bore holes so we could put screws in real flush. We put a ton of screws in, and we started from one side and flattened it out really good as we went along. Its soft if you hit it with your edge, but if you grind the edges to like a 45 degree angle with a razorblade you shouldn't have much of a problem.

sounds like you put much more though/effort in then me, I just countersunk four screws ever 8 inches or so

I've got a slideshow of the whole process. It was more of a service to all my friends who built the rail than directions on how to build one, but I'll render it in quicktime and post it up on youtube. I'm stuck in seattle airport on my way to Colorado for some rowdy skiing, but these layovers are hell.
