Just wondering what people on here know about mcgill. I'd love to know anyone's opinion that goes there. Also does anyone know anything about the mcdonald campus because I also got in there?

My brother went to McGill. He started at the mcdonald campus but third semester he moved to the montreal campus. I'd definetely recommend the montreal campus, there's so much to do it's rediculous. you're gonna have a blast.

My brother goes there - he's on this site so you might get some first hand info soon-ish...
He loves it, and I went there to get a taste of the nightlife - even on a slow night it's pretty sick

he really liked the mcdonald campus, thats where he met many of his good friends, but montreal's night life is too legit to pass up.

my dad went there and loved it. you need good grades to get in though you also will have to work real hard once you get there

I'm pretty sure the majority of them are lectures. My friend that goes there right now, his smallest class is 200 people. Bust your ass hard, and party harder.

this is what you do in montreal.
but mcgill is a great school as well my sister has a lot of lectures as well some smaller classes depending on how specific a topic they cover but definetely lots of big 200 person lectures...
her schedule is sick she gets tues and wed off but shes in education so i dunno how different it is than other programs

montrealers are pretty chill and most mcgill students are english so it shouldnt be too bad
if you know french it helps a bunch too
just think there are like a million people in the city someone is bound to want to be your friend

dude, fuckin go for it. i am in my last semester of undergrad and these have been the best years of my life. the people, the parties, the city, and access to the best skiing in the east. Avila and Bromont are less than an hour away for park, Jay Peak is less than 2 hours for pow and trees. As for the big lectures, that applies a lot more in the first couple years. once you pick a major and start taking higher level classes they will get a lot smaller. and as for meeting people, all you need to do is live in rez. three years later my main crew are still the people i lived with in first year. upper rez and douglas are best if you can get it. if you want to figure out what's up with riding join the following facebook groups: McGill Freestyle, McGill Snowboard Club, and Jay Peak Riders. giv'r homie, you will not regret it.

McGill loves to make me wait to hear back from them. I applied as a transfer student and will be a second semester sophomore if i get in, but for some reason they want my final transcript for the two classes i am taking this semester, which makes little sense to me b/c my grades have been consistently very good ever since i have been in college and i am not about to crash now. Every other university i applied to in Canada (Concordia, Ottawa, Toronto) already accepted me. I really hope i get into McGill but they are such a pain in the ass when it comes to this stuff. I want to study French there btw. What about everyone else going there?

yep, mcgill admissions is a bitch. i don't think i got my acceptance letter until the end of April, by which time i'd already accepted an offer from Queens as a backup

yeah i am probably going to have to accept my University of Toronto offer as a backup and just wait on McGill. It's a pain with Quebec though b/c i need enough time to get my CAQ and i only need a study permit for Ontario and not both. How long did that take (CAQ) for you once you sent in the app?

yo, if you have the option, go to downtown campus. yeah, mcgill is a great school, but the nightlife is the reason it's fucking sick/ macdonald does not have any nightlife. it's not like every other university where you get drunk in your rez and play beer pong... well you can do that, but then you go out, get fucked and hopefully bring some fine ass women back. As for going to class, it's going probably going to be boring as fuck, i'd be more worried about going out and getting drunk.

if anyone is applying as a transfer student, you will not know your acceptance status until after your final grades for the semester have been received, so most likely around the end of may/beginning of june dependent upon when you finish the semester. that's a long time to wait!

good school the mcdonald campus is like a half hour from downtown but im pretty sure mcgill has a shuttle bus so you wouldnt have to live at the mcdonald campus which would be kinda boring

it is indeed, although Concordia's John Molson School of Business is very good aswell. my dad went there, and 4 of my cousins currently go. i plan on going there in 2 years in their Faculty of Architecture. it is a very good school, very cheap and its in a massive party city. the macdonald campus is in the west island though, about 20 to 30 minutes away from the dt campus.

i think the macdonald campus has a lot to do with farming... cause i go to cegep on the same campus, and the only mcgill section seems to be in the farm, with like only a couple of buildings.

One of my buddies got a school scolour ship for the football team. i didnt really talk to him much about it but for what he said he said the campus is really nice and the dorms are like and usal dorm room. he said the teachers are nice and everything is going great.  but if u really wana know i can give u his number if u wanna go that far. cuz i really dont know alot about it.

I just got accepted into the JMSB...

Waiting to hear back from McGill still...as mentioned, those guys really like takign their sweet sweet time!

My sister is at McGill now...she loves it. As do a bunch of my friends.

I know a few of the proffessors from McGill, and I find they are much more interesting than the ones at John Molson (Concordia)...they're all rediculously smart and LOVE what theyr'e teaching...as opposed to Concordia, who tend to be...stale...

Someone may correct me on this, but I believe it's because they look at every single application, get their medians, figure out how many people they'd like to admit, then they do their cuts.

Concordia accepted people before the deadline even passed...

I pass the new McGill res almost every morning and in every window there are rows of beer and vodka bottles it's so jokes they seem to be having a nice little contest
Again dope school, great party city, nice people and close to skiing

The school is really good.

My couzin is there right now and is loving it. The students on campus are rly chill and the classes are really good too. If you are looking for a good party McGill is definately once of the best schools for it. One night i was in downtown montreal and some McGill people were having a party in an apartment. Just walking by i saw girls dancing near the window in skirts with no panties, loud music, very loud, definately a great party and there are many more.

Yea, I just sent in my deposit and filled out the housing stuff, so pumped to be in Montreal next year, and hopefully ski a lot. I listed douglass as my top housing choice, I have heard such good things about it, and Molson as my second, with gardner third. Hopefully I'll get into one of those. Douglass sounds so sick, but its one of the most popular and is really small (only like 175 rooms, that are all singles) but all of upper rez also sounds really fun. The other choices are more apartment style which some people may like but I didnt want to do freshman year, they dont have meal plans and have like 8-20 people in a house where they share a few rooms and all have their own bedrooms. There are some good threads on facebook about housing in the McGill 2013 group.
For anyone who goes to McGill currently do you get a season pass or just day passes when you go? If you get a season pass where at and how easy is it to get to the mountains?

Just paid my deposit for the Mac campus!

From everything I've heard, the kids at Mac are just more laid back versions of the kids downtown, and no matter what you'll be able to find kids who will go downtown on the weekends with ya. You get the benefits of a small school (more intimate classes, better prof relationships, more help available) with the benefits of a huge population of fine women and an awesome nightlife. Plus you can always get an apt downtown after first year.

On another note, EVERYBODY I've talked to mentions how Montreal has the most beautiful women in N. America. Everybody.
40/60 ratio too, baby!

I lived in Gardner this year and it was fucking sick,
if you're looking for partying, molson has the largest reputation, but this year both gardner and molson stepped it up. if you end up in gardner you will end up with the sickest floor fellow in the game, the thing about douglas is that, because doug has it's own cafeteria you don't end up meeting as many other people as you would if you lived in any of the upper rez's// you'll find way more skiers in molson or gardner is its anything like this year. The only skiers i ever saw leaving doug were gapers.
There is also so much stuff to session on the mountain, there's a 15-20 foot drop thats on the side of molson, mad rails on the mountain and you'll find alright kickers too.
as for other choices, im a floor fellow at solin next year and solin is the shit. by far the best option if you don't want a dorm style living situation and the rooms are by far the best. there isn't a meal plan but the meal plan blows at most of the rez's and makes your stomach feel like shit. The meal plan is also crazy overpriced and you could order food everyday for the same amount

Mcgill is a sweet choice,

Mac campus is about 45 minutes from downtown, more in traffic. The shuttle bus runs every hour. The Mac campus you will have much smaller classes and more TAs. All the programs are small and you will get to know everyone in your program. It's literally on a farm at the very Western tip of MTL in st anne de bellvue. Not too much to do there. I would defiantly go for downtown to be in montreal but if you like small schools and small towns, go for Mac

i just have to drop off my final grades for the semester in a few weeks. then they will let me know if im accepted as a transfer student. im gonna be living off campus so if anyone is looking to get an apt let me know or just wants to hang out and make some trips back to vermont with me (jay, etc).

the mcdonald campus is more for the ecology/environment or etc departments, while the downtown one is more so everything else, bio, chem, arts, law, lit etc.  depends what youre studying. living on the mcdonald one, if possible, is in the west island, which is hard to travel to and from and quite tedious, and annoying.

as for the rest of mcgill when it's not your march study break, you're probably getting crunk with a bunch of frat babies.

frosh seems fun, beer on campus who can disagree i guess.  the res on the mountain really suck if u wanna walk up university street everyday, which i wouldn't, because that's a nice sweaty hill.

mcgill is smack in the middle of downtown nightlife, shopping and food, so no need to worry about survival. its just basically an american/toronto school in the middle of montreal.
