Best all round resort for a season? (park/pow)

Im from Australia and am trying to decide on where to do the 09/10 winter season. I'm looking for a resort in the US or Canada with a sick park as well as good big mountain and pow skiing. I did whistler 2 seasons ago and would consider going back although the olympics are making accomodation a bitch. I'm in Chamonix, France this season which has sick big mountain n pow but such  an average park, which is why im leaning towards North America rather than europe again. Dont really have much of an idea about north american resorts so any help would be much apreciated.

pends on how much youre willin to spend.

id say somewhere outwest, CO, CA, MT, UT in those ball parks but its really personal preferance, a lot of places cost a bunch for housing too.

yeah, i'll probably have a fair bit of cash to blow, working all year for it. Also, a place with good night life would be sweet.

Hmm maybe like Big Sky, Park City, Brighton or something? Its easy to think of places with great parks or great pow, but both is pretty difficult. Imo Altabird then just build your own damn jumps heh~

Hmm.  Mammoth is a pretty fun place.  Great park, and June / some of mammoth has some pretty gnarly backcountry, especially if you have sled.

Utah is super fun, You have places like brighton/alta/snowbird for backcountry and Park City which has one of the best parks in the world. 

But Colorado might be you're best choice.  Bangin night life, amazing parks (AKA Keystone Breck) and some pretty damn good backcountry (Crested Butte, hell just about anywhere, but Crested is one of my favorites)

^Colorado has shit for pow though. Like 3 inch "dumps". Its light for sure, but if you dont enjoy skiing gnarly lines in shitty coverage (very fun dont get me wrong, but it isnt pow) then it isnt a good choice. On the other hand, they have killer parks~

yea i've only been to CB once and it was on a good day, whatever man.  You didn't answer the first part of my question... east vail?  ever been?  ????  steep, shit is deep too.  not the 3" snowfall you might have experienced wherever the fuck you went

nice try, but saying they only get 3" inch dumps is ridiculous

Loveland gets 400"+ a year, and CB/Silverton/T-Ride having been getting hammered the past couple of seasons.

CB has already gotten 255 inches this year.

After 20 years of living there, getting more waist/chest deep days than i can count, jumping out of my second story window just so i could get out of my house, and skiing gnarlier lines than i've found almost anywhere else, i can say you should check it out first before you talk any more shit.

the surrounding bc gets way more snow than the actual mountain too/

Colorade pow skiers are officially butt hurt like no other and completely delusional. Oh wow 255 inches already this year! OP could move somewhere with an average snowfall of more than double most CO ski areas. Sorry, but saying you have had so many pow days cant compete with simple facts. Colorado gets much less snow than Utah, Washington, Hood, MT, Canadian Rockies, and Whistler etc. Oh and loveland barely has a park from what I can tell. Their website says like 5 jibs and 2 jumps, not to mention 400 inches is still less than resorts listed above~

Mammoth, Tahoe, or summit county in general.

All of them have some of the worlds best parks, and the worlds best snow. Can't go wrong.

Hes right you know, and if you want a nightlife don't go to mormon utah, whistler is the way to go. Just start looking for a place now because there is the olympics next year.

don't come to summit county or anywhere in CO for that matter. not that CO doesn't have some good skiing, there are just much better places. If I were you I'd be deciding between SLC and Mammoth. Both have great parks and great big mtn.

Yeah i was heaps considering doin whistler again, think i can hook a job and accomodation there as well but its gonna be so crowded during the olympics, gonna be an absolute shit fight wont it?

I would stay away from the top tier destination places and go somewhere a little less busy. Try silverstar or bigwhite. Both can have sick pow and sick parks.

aussies takin over all the crown land, starting with whistler and banff.


As for places, mammoth, tahoe, salt lake city area would be good bets. Colorado gets the snow but, from my experience, not where the good parks are

Clever, I see what you did there. I call you butthurt and give a rebuttal while you then proceed to call me butthurt... and well get some more people to chime in and help call me butthurt. In fact im so butthurt over the PNW snowpack that I will continue to argue for my original suggestions of park city, ut etc over colorado for park and pow,  just because Im so pissed about PNW snowpack this year, because that is completely logical~

Summit county mountains suck, I would never want to live in CO

park city has a good park, and there are good mountains in utah, so if you got two passes it would be worth it, but brighton sucks and that's the closest to having both in UT

I would for sure, 100 percent go with Mammoth.

Last season Crested Butte broke 400 inches...this year we're almost at 300. The back country here gets a ton more snow then the mountain. I've had so many deep days since moving here.

dude, really? if the last 2 seasons haven't persuaded you that europe is the place to be then you must be missing something...

if you want comparable big mtn terrain to chamonix, one of europe's best parks,epic nightlife, then just relocate to Val d'Isere. Tignes for a more laid back vibe. Plus its exactly 67% less of a shit-fight on pow days. seriously, do it.

try red mountain in rossland BC. unquestionably a good choice for pow and lines (this is where last year's Cold Rush was held) and I have heard they are really getting their shit together with the park these days

CO is definatley sick, same with UT. Super dry snow in those areas.

Seattle isnt a bad place to be as well if you want to be near a lot of water for the off season and close to mt hood. Avg temp from like june to sept is around 80 and a ton of water sports i.e wakeboarding.

we're havin a shit season this year, but last year snoqualmie/alpental got 588 inches and mt baker holds the world record of around 1,200 inches in 99 and some of the sickest terrain. Plus whistler/blackcomb is only a 3.5 hour drive for long weekends or whatnot.

brighton's PARK sucks but the mountain is siick, but i even find the park fun, but not everyday ridable.

and the closest to having the best of both worlds in utah in one pass is definitely the canyons.
