Bored in class? Have a new HP laptop with a remote?

Well i've recently discovered an easy and sometimes hilarious way to pass time when im bored in a university class. Newer HP laptops have a remote that comes with them to adjust volume, turn the screen off an on, mute/unmute, launch quickplay/windows media center etc.

Well I also found out that it works for almost every HP laptop made this year, even the ones that didn't come with a remote so it can be done to anyones computer. If there watching youtube video or talking on msn you can crank or unmute their volume.

It's a dick move I know but the only thing I ever do is launch Quickplay to see their reaction. One chick ran a virus check the first time I did it. There's so much potential.

they have one for macs, and its great for in class, open up front row application, press play, and then get to see who has their volume off hahaha its awful but kind of funny sometimes too

Also the range is surprisingly decent on the remote. The only problem is you have to be at an angle to the person your trying to fuck with because the receiver is located on the inside edge of the laptop to the right of the keypad.

It has to be a new HP though!

i am doing this first chance i get....  like you said though, execution could be a bitch. my sensor is right infront of my touch pad, so depending on how the person is using their laptop its gonna be tough.

I find its the easiest to do when a teacher has a slideshow or media presentation that doesn't require typing, people tend to lean back in their chairs which makes them open game.

you can get a free app for your iphone or itouch from the app store called iremote.

does the same thing except you dont need a remote, you can use your phone.

and obviously the computer you control has to be a mac.

i used to have a pda from hp that had this app that could emulate a remote for anything, tvs, dvd players, computers, etc. I set it up to work with our school DVD/VCRs and Projectors. I had this one old guy (Mr landers for anyone at GHS) and when he was giving a presentation i kept changing the source of the projector, he was so confused so he restarted his computer which took like 5 minutes. Once it was back up, i started playing the vhs that was in the vcr without switching the projector, so all of a sudden we were hearing this history movie. The teacher left to get help, brought in another teacher who couldnt figure anything out. Good times.

Also, i have this thing called firefly that u plug into the usb of a computer and it uses a remote over RF instead of IR (aka you dont have to be able to see the reciver). The remote can do like everything from voume to moving the mouse and opening programs. I thought it would be great to hook it up to a techers computers and just mess with them, maybe open some porn while the projectors on

apparently the mac remote works fine, a buddy of mine brought his to class this morning and he managed to get it to work on one of the numerous macs in front of him.

haha yeah apple remotes do that too, i just close my comp and go to town with the apple remote, you open front row, go into music, and crank up the volume

my school uses dell deskstops so when ever someone gets up to go to the bathroom i unplug there mouse or keyboard and and plug mine into theirs. When they come back they freak out because they see shiit typing on there screen

Haha yes i have a remote that can do this for any laptop but a mac, can also move mouse etc. Some guy was playing CS in out prep class and i decided to take control (The remote overides the mouse) and he started freaking out, good shit.

A guy I went to high school with had a watch with some kind of universal on/off switch. There was a TV in our homeroom, so whenever we had a supply teacher we would warn them that the room was haunted.
Adam would start turning the TV on and off, and most teachers got so annoyed they rolled the whole TV cart out into the hall, a couple even called the principal into the class to talk to us, but when she did he didn't believe her, and told her maybe the room really was haunted. Heehee. :)

this is a great idea. at my high school we have smartboards which are all technological so all my friends with iphones can hack into the teachers computer and fuck with shit

if your using the actual mac remote im pretty sure it will only work on macs that have already been paired with a remote.

the iremote thing i was talking about earlier works on any mac period.

the actual mac remote that comes with your computer works on any mac computer with a receiver
