I'm 185 and I use them for everything but steep and deep.  I have an older pair of stiff boots for that.

Buying boots off the internet is like buying a used car without driving it first, do yourself a favor and get fitted. Once you get fitted you will at least have an idea of what your dimensions are. And don't be afraid to ask your bootfitter to write them down. Do you have wide or narrow feet? Thick or thin calves? Large arch or small arch? 4 or 5 toes? etc etc etc.

Even if you don't buy boots at your shop, with a general idea of the above and what felt comfortable at the store then NS can help.

Thanks for the info! my shop here in town really sucks and we don't really have a legit boot fitter, so that's why i was asking questions like that. I have already made the mistake of buying boots online earlier this season so i have kind of learned the hard way. I do have a wider foot, i know that for sure.

One question i also had was that one guy was telling me that for the spk "because they are a 2 buckle design, the toe box is low volume...not ideal for a wider foot." what does that mean, the low volume part?

Ive never worn the SPK before but to me, low volume would mean a smaller cubed area
