Why are stiffer skis better for jumps?

and why are softer skis better on rails? whats the reasoning behind this

stiffer skis provide a better platform to land on. Say you land a little backseat on a big jump, with a soft ski you might push straight through it and fall, the stiffer ski will stay solid and give you the ability to recover. hope that made sense.

^indeed..and softer skis are nice on rails because you can usually pop higher onto a rail with flexier skis

soft skis are better for rails because the are more flexible and easier to press.
