Superunknown winner?

chris laker rips! I think if he doesn't win over everyone else(besides possible will berman) then the level 1 superunknown is def. "rigged." (Rigged as in level 1 already has athletes in mind they want to win)

yeahh chris laker slays I waching all of them, i've never heard of this kid until his video a real superunknown. that kid seriously salyed the park and urban he does litterally ever trick.. 810s on and off rails rodeos 630 on and off rails. rodeos 9s, kang flips i swear a saw 990 off tho. spins so fast he does. every imaginable tricks on rails and in the urban part is pretty solid. you name the trick and its in the video and let us not also forget hes 15 years old. i could see this kid beating anyone in a few years! hes already unreal

yeah he's got the tricks, but thats not always what you're looking for in a movie. Compared to other finalists he's got the tricks that are par and even above par, but imo he doesn't have an extablished style of skiing such as berman, mcchesney, torvinen, and most others. Thats obviously part of his age, so i think his day will come, just not now.

chris laker is good but i just couldnt see him getting level 1 quality shots. He would make an awesome competition skier, but he just isnt there yet in terms of style, it just wouldnt work well with level 1.

im expecting marty bullet to win, just cause i think he can bring something new that level 1 doesnt already have, and he's just so damn good, he would be sick as hell on some of level 1's park setups.

Chris laker kills it easy but I just dont think he deserves to win it, he is still only 15 he has so many years to do so much more. I think ryan wyble easily had one of the best edits or sean jordan because he filmed his edit in a day which would be good for the park shoot level 1 does

People need to stop hating on the midwest. Just because we dont have the biggest features does not mean midwesters cant slay.

I would be willing to bet at least 70% of the people in our home hill is better than the average NSer.

And also that about our top 5 could hang with most out westers top 5 riders.
There is some serious talent here.

he can ski way more than a 15 flat box and his home mountain (small hill), perfect north slopes doesnt really have the same kinda park as keystone so its not his fault that he doesn't get to hit better features. its not like hes picking a small flat box over something sick. i know if there was some better feature he would kill that too.

You say this in every thread about him. If you don't like the kid, fine. But don't hate on him for slaying what he has available to him to slay. We don't have room on our hill to put out 60 foot long boxes and rails, let alone 60 foot jumps. The kid is 15, he doesn't have the ability to go wherever he wants just to film for Superunknown.

I think you're all forgetting that this is to be in a ski film not a 5 minute put together of your most banger tricks. You're all forgetting that these peoples styles will have to flow in with the film with the likes of t wall, downey, brogan, henrick, hornbeck and the rest of the level one crew. I'm obviously not near as good as any of the superunknown entries, but superunknown isn't just most spins and most pretzel variations and keeping your hands down, your tricks and ride away gotta flow from shot to shot with the grace that the rest of the level 1 crew has. I rest my case at this.

i want to see someone that doesnt mesh with the styles of other level 1 athlete's. Dont get me wrong wallisch,ahmet, all of them have amazing style. However whatever happened to guys like boyd easley bringing the rockstar look to skiing, that was amazing to see. Back in the day ski movies had so many different types of riders and i got into the movies alot more.


Laker obviously has alot of talent, id like to see what he could do at keystone along with many other entree's. I do think other entree's showed alot more controll in there skiing though.

just because he doesn't afterbang hard enough doesn't mean the kid don't have style. he's definitely controlled in every aspect. jumps/rails/etc... all of his grabs are way sick and held throughout his rotation. and search the 'midwest hesh day edit'. that was shot a couple weeks after he finished superunknown filming and he got even more sick.

wouldn't they "want" to have someone they "want" to win???

I think somthing people fail to realize is that Superunknown isnt a skill contest. Somebody can be the best skiier ever born and still not win (Martini proved that point last year). Berman looks for unique styles that will look good on film. The person obviously needs to be skilled, but they have to fit the criteria of what makes level 1 what they are.

Same with job interviews for companies..you could be PhD level qualified, but it you don't have the right job 'fit' then it just won't work.

L1P still has a very defined culture and style - it makes sense for the winner of superunknown to blend in with that and not change the game

he has so many rediculous tricks. and to those who say he does them all on 15' flat boxes allow me to point out the 2nd to last trick in the edit. on a roller coaster to down box (about 50ft total in length) he does sw up, sw up, pretz k-fed out. blew my mind. id also like to mention the 2 on 3sw up 2 out on the decent sized dfd. now he definitely doesnt have the contest on lock or anything. i could just as easily see mcchesney or bergeron win, but come on

Bullet better win, he deserves it, he's got the most film worthy style. and to the guy above its not that he wears tight pants, it helps but he just has a very original style, and its a very smooth, flowy, consistant style, he's not landing shit sketchy, his arms and legs arent all over the place, and he doesnt afterbang every little thing he does. he's just got a super controlled look and a super smooth style, which is something that most this years superunknown contestants cant really say, even the other very top choices.
he's got as much technical ability as anyone else, but he doesnt over do it like alot of the others, pretty much all his hits on bigger stuff were very film worthy, where most other peoples were over hucked and belong more in a comp. so go BULLET

but honestly, everybody's same tricks look different. everybody adds a little of their own flavor into everything. my rodeo looks different than your rodeo which looks differnt than tom's rodeo which looks different than hornbecks rodeo which looks different than everybody elses. there are no two skiers that are alike.

at our hill we build up the jumps for a camp after the season ends and i have personally seen him cork 10 an 83'(lip to knuckle) jump. the best part is that was 2 YEARS AGO

Altough they were bigger than lakers jumps, they were know where near as big as they would be hitting for a shoot.
Its really all about who you think can adjust the quickest.

Idk this is a tough one to judge. There are some really good kids this year.

This is what irks me.  Almost everyone who is leading the charge for Chris to take it, is from the midwest.  It's pretty clear that there is a huge bias towards this kid amongst Mid-Westerners, and zero objectivity.  We get it...skiing in the mid-west blows, and you guys make do with no vert and dangerous parks.  Yeah, the kid slays and he's freakishly talented.  He is undoubtedly "trick for trick" one of the top 3 or 4 entrants. 

  Unfortunately, skiing, and especially "video" skiing, has at least as much to do with aesthetics, and the bottom line is that Laker hucks.  I don't think he should win because he spins an extra 180 on or off of a park feature...pencilly at that.  I thought there was a movement to steer clear of the spin to win mentality, and to favor style and creativity over tech...  I think Laker's skiing is a lot like Gus Kenworthy's from a year or two ago.  By that, I mean the tricks are there, but the style was just not quite there.  If you watch Gus today, he's a different animal, and I think Laker will undergo a similar maturing.

  People seem to be shocked to learn that he is so young...I don't get that at all.  When I watch him ski, the FIRST thing I think to myself is man, "That little kid is going to be ridiculous when he grows into his body".  There are at least 5 or so entries by guys who are infinitely more photogenic...and no, I don't mean any number of the Tom Wallisch clones.   I just don't see the logic of taking someone based on their age.

  In closing, yes Laker slays, but please stop riding for him just because he's from a po-dunk mountain.  Chris will get his shine, but honestly, I don't think what he would bring to a spring park shoot, an urban trip, etc. is above or beyond what Level 1 already has, OR the best quality entrants.
